Where? Please, give us some link :)

Well, Steven is Steven and I like him. I can judge only from Youtube interviews but what I hear I mostly like. He speaks how he wants to speak and not so many people do it. Yes, sometimes it sounds like "hey, I am different and better than you poor guys" and sometimes something is too much - like for example damaging of IPods. I don't own Ipod and I don't need it. I agree with Steven in this - I don't shuffle tracks, I want to listen to all album from the beginning to the end. But to damage Ipods is exaggerated in my opinion.
I don't agree with everything what he says but on the other hand I have some opinions the same like Steven. But I am not able to say it as accurately as him. His interviews are very interesting and his english is also perfect. I understand his speaking very well although I have mostly some troubles with understanding of english.

Fresh off Porcupine Tree’s first Coachella appearance, Steven Wilson discusses The Incident, the upcoming Anesthetize DVD, the long-awaited Wilson-Åkerfeldt-Portnoy project and the Deadwing movie that may or may not happen.
Quote:

“In the meantime, I’ve carried on with my interest in film. I made a film last year about the making of my first solo record, Insurgentes, which became a lot more than just a documentary; it became a film about the state of the industry and what it means to be a musician in the download culture era. [That will] be playing at a lot of festivals this summer which is very gratifying.” Wilson doesn’t seem to rest. If he’s not touring with Porcupine Tree, he’s off working on solo material, producing other bands or doing one of his side projects like Blackfield, Bass Communion and No-Man. Recently, Wilson has collaborated with Mikael Åkerfeldt from Opeth and Mike Portnoy from Dream Theater.

Last november I asked SW in Barcelona about and he said it's still going on. That it will sound like nothing of what him, Mikael or Portnoy do in their bands, so they thought it might probably be a disappointment for many fans. That's why they are not talking much about it, and also because they have way too many things to do and have no clue when it will be out!

Thanks! So the last quote says that it's still unsure when it will be ready... Hmm...

mrguy 05-13-2010 03:58 AM

Yeah. I think it will be sometime next year....

Insurgentes is an amazing record. Can't wait for the follow up.

Steven Wilson is far and away my favorite artist in the industry right now.

mine too

Insurgentes used to be my favourite SW (I.e. All his products) album, but it's kinda gotten a bit old :/ that hasn't happened with any PT albums yet...

Insurgentes has actually been growing on me a lot as of recently. I'd say it is definitely up there with PT's best albums.

btw I recognize you on PTF/muse.mu. I'm bpn on PTF and boomeraangsquad on muse.mu.

it feels good knowing PTfans on multiple forums

Yup. Likewise, there are a few familiar people posting here.

Hi, Wilson is just making new album so I hope it won't be long waiting :)

Also Blackfield III and his work with M. Akerfeldt will be out. Not this year but maybe 2011.

SW about new solo album:
"I was very pleased with the first one. It was well received, which was gratifying, because it was quite different. It had aspects of my other projects, but fused together in a way I had never pursued before. It combined some of the Bass Communion aesthetics of noise and texture with songwriting, using an orchestra in an atonal, wall-of-sound way, and integrating my love of shoe gazing music for the first time as well. No disrespect to Richard Barbieri intended, but it was interesting to be in a position in which I didn’t have to rely on a keyboard player. So, I used the guitar in a more textural way. Now, I'm looking forward to the next step.
I have no idea how the album will sound. I’m going to take what I did on Insurgentes and go further into more twisted and experimental areas, but still have it all based on what are effectively songs and vocal pieces. I’m just going to go to my studio and start experimenting, which is how the first album happened. It’s quite liberating not to have to consider what other musicians are thinking about. When I write for Porcupine Tree, I’m aware that I’m writing for three other musicians and I’m cognizant of what they do and do not like and what they will and will not respond to in a positive way. So, while that limitation is essential and important for a band that has a style and direction, at the same time, I’m happy not to have that limitation with my solo material. So, if I want to fuse a beautiful orchestral passage with a complete wall of noise within a pop song with trip-hop elements, all in the space of eight minutes, I can. And that’s what I did with Insurgentes. So that will be my next major writing and production project."

I also read that this new album will be recorded like old stuff in 70th and inspired by sound of King Crimson. There will be probably little bit of jazz - saxophone, flutes...

I just love this sentence - "if I want to fuse a beautiful orchestral passage with a complete wall of noise within a pop song with trip-hop elements, all in the space of eight minutes, I can." :D
