I like pink floyd much better than dream theater mostly because their acoustics are better, they got more slow kinda fall asleepish songs, and the lyrics are really deep.. you cant really sit there for 30 minutes trying to understand what message DT is trying to portray. Another part (however small) is the time difference between them. I had a dad who was like the biggest pink floyd enthusiast in the world so im rather biased.. haha

They are just prog for two different types of people.

DT is for the angsty and alienated teens.

Floyd is for the pretentious and alienated teens.

Come on, you have to admit prog wouldn't have its -meager- popularity if it wasn't for 'the other kids.' This also goes for metal and indie (however taking the extremes of the above archetypes).
Punk and rock don't count because they are marshaled by pop-style exploitation, so they fall loosely in that category.

And just to let you know, I am not biased on this issue at all... I hate both bands equally.

I kind of mean the 'PUNK RAWK' and 'ROCK 'N ROLL ******' (good song btw) camps of popular music.

Definatly Pink Floyd. Dream Theater may have the better musicanship and even though im a fan i dont think they have the albums to stand up to Pink Floyd's back catatlogue. Albums like Piper at the Gates of Dawn, Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, The Wall etc are timeless classics

Pink Floyd. I mean Piper was amazing, as were DSoTM, The Wall, Animals, Wish You Were Here, Saucerful of Secrets, Atom Heart Mother, and Meddle.

It's kinda hard to top that. And I'm 18

Pink Floyd were legendary, and wrote music that will still be remembered in 50 years. Dream Theater will die out soon after they stop recording. Nobody that doesn't play an instrument could sit through an hour of dream theater. Hell I'm an 8 year guitarist and bassist and i still get bored of that wanking ****e.
