pink floyd.. syd or roger?

who did you like better in the the lead?

i have to go with roger waters. tough call, but i cant say that piper at the gates of dawn was better than dark side of the moon. dark side of the moon has an amazing re-playability for me.

For the Record, Dave Gilmour Replaced Sid. Roger was always in the band.

i was talking about for lead singing and song writing. although 'dark side of the moon' was still a collaborative work, roger ended up having a more dominating grasp on the bands work as time went on post - syd barrett.

David Gilmour was the primary leadsinger in Floyds early post Syd years, Roger sings on only one song on Meddle, one song on Obscured by Clouds and two songs on DSOTM. He didn't really take the role of lead singer until Animals.

But as a songwriter, I have always prefered Waters to Barrett, and of course Gilmour is a better singer and guitarist than Barrett, his songwriting is pretty strong too.

Nick Mason.

Lol.

I would give my right nut to have had Syd's unbridled imagination, and my left nut to have 1/10th of David's guitar playing prowess. Even though Roger dominated so much of the band's output in their latter years, it was Gilmours guitar playing that still blew me away. THE FLETCHER MEMORIAL HOME from THE FINAL CUT is a great example.

Animals and The Wall were excellent albums, even though Waters wrote and sang most of the songs, there was still some band effort in them.

The Final Cut though was pretty much just Roger Waters, replacing Richard Wright with a symphony orchestra was a bloated idea, and David Gilmour didn't write a single song, not even a co-writing credit. Aside from the predictably good Gilmour guitar solos, there was no band effort at all.

This is what was written on the back cover.

"The Final Cut: A Requiem for the Post-War Dream

by Roger Waters, performed by Pink Floyd."

That was pretty much the red flag of their demise.

It's hard to decide between the two...

I would prefer to see Syd (healthy) live but the albums led by Roger are much more listenable then those led by Syd.

Since there is a very limited amount of live Barrett material I would have to choose Roger Waters.

Remember that one song Syd wrote, Have you got it yet?

Every time the rest of Pink Floyd tried to perform the song, Syd would stop them because he was always rewriting the whole composition, making it impossible to learn, and it pissed everybody off. A whole hour had lasted until they finally gave up.

That was Syds great humor at work.
