To be an insufferable bore, all bans given to humans (not spambots) should be given as 10+ point infractions because they go on the user's record. Which is useful.

Oh no not our permanent records!

I didn't know there was a point system. What is the final or the total limit for infraction points a member can incur?

I don't know if there is a limit. The way the infractions are supposed to work is roughly like this:

When users break rules, mods punish with infractions. The infractions last for a set amount of time. Whenever a user has 10 or more, they lose access to the forums.

Mods don't actually have to ban users as much in this scenario. A minor infraction could suspender a user if he/she had accumulated many from before. Bans become slightly more just a natural consequence rather than mod decisions.

Furthermore, infractions show up on your permanent record also visible to you under User CP.

Edit:

BTW, I wouldn't necessarily suggest really leaning into the infractions system, but it's smart to use for bans anyhow.

When I was on the writing forum, we had a points system. basically, it was five strikes within a year and you were banned. In serious cases, we'd be more arbitrary. When the former owner had it (and he was mostly fair), we had one troublemaker who knew how to behave himself just before the permaban and he got a lot of leeway. Now, the new owners might can you just because they don't like you and as soon as he showed up again, he was gone.

Some mod I don't even remember gave me an infraction for being gone for three days and I was ****ing livid. I hope karma did it's job.

As far as I remember it was done as a joke with his intention to show in way you that your presence on the boards was important, or at least to him. And I am pretty sure he was contrite when he found out when it bothered you. You're safe, and you still have your club MusicBanter membership. Seems like Kharma done its job. ... unless you believe Kharma should smite anyone who jokes around with you.

I have a 10 point infraction from Yac saying "Work on your thesis! Do it!"

But I asked for it.

So anyways, what about Inca Roads? Is it the single greatest Zappa-song in existence?

Not in this case, but in many, yes, I think calling down the wrath of Odin is appropriate for the crime.
