Default Where are the Porcupine Tree fans?

I have gone through most of the pages of this "Progressive/Psychedelic" section, and have only seen mentions of Porcupine Tree, but not threads. I may have overlooked them, but in case I haven't... LET THEM BE RECOGNIZED.

In my opinion, Porcupine Tree exceeds any other Prog bands, for two reasons.

First (NOT the most important), they have GAVIN HARRISON on drums. In MY opinion, the greatest living drummer. Yeah, sorry Neil Peart fans... he's great, but Gavin does it all... Jazz, Progressive Rock, you name it... not to mentioned, he was recently made a member of King Crimson. Fripp doesn't let just any old musicians into his well oiled machine.

Second (THE most important): STEVEN WILSON. Need I say more? The brainchild behind Porcupine Tree, Blackfield, No-Man, Bass Communion, IEM, as well as "solo" works. And most of these bands sound nothing alike. He is a GENIUS! And those early P Tree albums, which were mostly Steven Wilson solo projects. Geez, what couldn't he do?

Default PORCUPINE TREE fans, unite!!

I have enjoyed this Prog branch of this forum, but have been very surprised to see the lack of talk about Porcupine Tree. In my opinion, there are two reasons why Porcupine Tree needs a discussion of their own.

First: GAVIN HARRISON! Quite possibly the greatest drummer of our generation, and definitely one of the best of all time. Not only a member of Porcupine Tree, but recently invited to become part of the well oiled machine known as KING CRIMSON. Robert Fripp is VERY selective... that should be enough proof of this guy's talent.

Second (and MOST important): STEVEN WILSON. Not only the brainchild of Porcupine Tree, but for the first few albums, the principal (if not only) member of the project. Not only is he responsible for this great band, but he also carries on simultaneous careers with NO-MAN, BLACKFIELD, BASS COMMUNION, IEM and assorted "solo" things. He is one of the most talented and artistic musicians out there, and needs to be recognized!

So, Porcupine Tree fans... let's unite, and spread the great word...

I like Gavin Harrison, but greatest drummer alive? That's a bit of a stretch isn't it?

Well I dunno, Boz Burrell was pretty mediocre, he played bass on Islands even though he had no idea how to play bass and basically just took bass lessions from Fripp during the making of the album.

He has 3 videos of him teaching different drumming technicians. There pretty cool. And a percussion solo album.

Yeah hes not the best though. But pretty damn good.

I listened to another of Steven Wilson's bands (No-Man) throughout the 90's, and it wasn't until the summer of 2001 that I decided to download some of his "other band" on Audio Galaxy. Out of 16 songs, I was floored by 15 of them. I have never looked back. I immediately ordered all of their albums up until that time (Lightbulb Sun, being the most recent). To this day, the genius of Steven Wilson STILL blows me away. If you are open minded, check out his other projects. No-Man, Blackfield, Bass Communion, IEM and his forthcoming solo album.
For me, STUPID DREAM and DEADWING are probably my two favorites, but I LOVE THEM ALL... with the exception of "On The Sunday of Life", which is good... excellent for someone in their late teens. For me, you can't compare the beauty of some of the early songs, STARS DIE, etc. But one can say the same about the technicality of his current line-up, especially since the addition of Gavin Harrison. He is one of the finest drummers on the planet, and has definitely added to the PT experience.

Oops... I didn't know that someone had moved a post from a thread that I tried starting. Y'all are going to think that I have Alzheimers, or something. Not the case. My apologies.

And I am still standing by Gavin. Watch him closely, as he plays live. And listen to the varieties of styles that he plays. He may not be THE best, but he's darned close.

Oh, and as far as ARRIVING SOMEWHERE, NOT HERE is concerned. I need to sound like a broken record, and tell you guys to study GAVIN! That, alone, makes this one a worthwhile watch. And yes, they may not tear the stage up, but most Prog bands don't. They are much more concerned about the technicality of the music, and making sure that they are sounding tight. Pink Floyd didn't have much presence. Rush doesn't have much presence, but the stage shows are amazing. Maybe someday, PT will be earning enough money to finance a big operation like those guys.

That is a really good EP. I love the reference to Trains in the one song.

Heard Deadwing, need more, peeps.

BTW, I'm listening to latter day Katatonia. It sounds exactly like the heavier parts of Deadwing.

Not really a bad thing, I guess.
