Oh okay.

It turns out the system is that good. The receiever can't decode DTS. I guess that's why it didn't sound too good

Alright. So a while ago, I promised that I'd listen to some Porcupine Tree and report back to let you guys know what I thought.

WOW! I've really been missing out over the years! It's so good to hear a fresh band like this.
I started out listening to In Absentia and Deadwing (like Petula suggested --- thanks again!) and really liked it! Now I'm listening to Fear of a Blank Planet (with Signify next on my list).
On top of that, I'm getting into some Blackfield as well, and have been watching lots of Steven Wilson interviews on YouTube. Man, he is so cool.
Listening to PT has been an awesome refreshment over the past couple weeks and I'm pumped to hear more of them! Thanks again for the recommendations!

I would recommend getting Lightbulb Sun, then The Incident (it takes a while to get into, and I don't love it yet), then stupid dream before Signify...

But I haven't heard signify before, but thats what seems to be the general concencus...

And I really don't like Blackfield. As far as side projects go, Insurgentes (Steven Wilson's solo album) is much better. I also heard a bit of no-man which seems better than Blackfield stuff

Oh, great!
You have exactly the same feelings like I had 6 months before when I found Porcupine Tree. So you are on good way to become big fan of PT and Wilson
I hope to see you more often in this thread.

Yes, Signify is very good choice, for me the best album of "old" (no metal) Porcupine Tree.
I think you will like also Stupid Dream, it has a lot of nice melodies. And Lightbulb Sun.
After these three albums you can try new album The Incident but I would recommend not sooner. It's not easy album and it was really hard to appreciate it but now I love it. For first time I said "What the hell is it"? Than "hmmm" and than "yeah, I got the point of this album." But I needed more than 15 listens for The Incident.
Well, maybe I would recommend this order:
Lightbulb Sun
Stupid Dream
Signify
The Incident...

I like or love some Blackfield (Cloudy now, End of the world, Lullaby, Epidemic, This Killer, 1000 people), I love Insurgentes. And I like more projects of S. Wilson.
Highwayman, if you want to know more about all music by Steven Wilson, visit thread with his name. Some time ago I wrote there a list of all SW projects.

And... I have great news... this summer I will finally see Porcupine Tree LIVE!
Well, it will be only open-air festival but at least in my country.

That's awesome!
And I'll snoop around the web and see what I can find from Stupid Dream, Lightbulb Sun, etc. Or I'll check the record store in town. Either way, I need more of these guys!

So I have all the albums from stupid dream onwards...

I assume the next best move to make is to get signify.

But in my CD store The Sky Moves Sideways is only $18 (20% off), and Signify is full price at $24.... Is it worth getting TSMS before signify?

I envy you cause I can't get TSMS anywhere here and have to order it online. If that is available and cheaper then go for it. It's arguably the most experimental of all their albums.
