Comus 01-04-2009 06:37 PM

Awesome, like the list, I'm still totally undecided, I voted in the last one out of pure convenience to see the current tally. Between Mahavishnu Orchestra (realllly growing on me after I put them on my MP3 player) Jethro Tull and King Crimson for me.

boo boo 01-04-2009 06:38 PM

I made a quick change and added Comus, you're welcome. :)

Comus 01-04-2009 06:40 PM

Hahah awesome, cheers, I'm gonna vote them then since they are my namesake and all.

boo boo 01-04-2009 06:41 PM

Sorry about that. Go ahead and vote for em.

Comus 01-04-2009 06:43 PM

My vote was discounted ;_;

boo boo 01-04-2009 06:44 PM

Yeah, my bad, vote for them again I wont change it anymore, I changed my mind about adding them, then I changed my mind again, lol.

Dr_Rez 01-04-2009 06:45 PM

A few I have not heard, but to me its a simple decison. Pink Floyd takes it for me because they have the best quality/quantity ratio of all these bands.

Although naming a favorite band is always pretty pointless. It ultimately depends on your mood.

Comus 01-04-2009 07:08 PM

I can't vote again :(

debaserr 01-04-2009 07:35 PM

can...
im kinda obsessed as of late

Double X 01-04-2009 07:59 PM

I really wanted to vote for KC...but I couldn't resist Pink Floyd. My vote stayed the same from the first poll.

lucifer_sam 01-04-2009 08:24 PM

Seriously? Someone already voted for fucking Rush?

I quit.

kingcrimson 01-04-2009 08:58 PM

King Crimson is kinda a given for me to vote for. Gotta love Court of the Crimson King.

ProggyMan 01-04-2009 11:26 PM

Thrak, Beat and Power To Believe are all better than Starless imo.

boo boo 01-04-2009 11:30 PM

Well Thrak is. KC's most underrated album.

Beat is decent, but I'd say it's Crimsons worst after ConstruKction of Light. It also has Heartbeat, the worst KC song ever.

Demonoid 01-05-2009 12:02 AM

Phew, no queen!
Last time it was KC, but I'll think about it a bit more this time.

jackhammer 01-05-2009 03:12 AM

I like 17 off that list, that's not really narrowed down is it? :D

FireInCairo 01-05-2009 03:50 AM

As of right now and subject to change
Can

Bulldog 01-05-2009 03:58 AM

Can for me. My favourite does change fairly often though.

Toybox 01-05-2009 06:22 PM

Jethro Tull does it for me, even though I'm a mighty fan of VDGG.

boo boo 01-05-2009 07:10 PM

It's tough for me, because I love all these bands.

But when I get down to it, it's gotta be either KC or Yes, I'm not sure who to vote for yet.

I think Starless is their second worse, but I know I'm in the minority there.

lucifer_sam 01-05-2009 07:57 PM

I went for class this time, Mahavishnu Orchestra. John McLaughlin has the capacity to sound like a genius or a crackpot, and too often he seems the latter, but The Inner Mounting Flame is simply glorious. Shame the last 25 years he's devoted himself to not much more than jerking off.

God I certainly hope so. That album is pure awesome.

Anteater 01-09-2009 01:17 PM

Dunno how anyone can pick Pink Floyd, Yes or VDGG over KC honestly: their debut all the way though Discipline is damn near perfection on every front, though I'm sure there will be those who disagree....

Btw boo boo, why isn't Gryphon or Lucifer's Friend on this poll? (five and nine albums respectively, and Gryphon's Red Queen to Gryphon Three is a classic for Pete's sake). :D

ProggyMan 01-09-2009 11:30 PM

I don't think Griffin is all that incredible.

You mean these guys?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Griffin_(band)

If so, I completely agree. :)

Inuzuka Skysword 01-10-2009 08:09 AM

Yes, KC, or Comus.

First Utterance is a great album.

Guybrush 01-13-2009 03:11 AM

The list was a vast improvement! It's a bit hard to choose, so I just went with what I'm liking the most these days .. and then it was down to one of the Canterbury bands.

I went with Caravan. If I get to vote again in a week or so, I'm guessing my vote will go to Camel.

blachalaheebow 01-17-2009 02:04 PM

eh, if you put Hatfield on there, you should have put Egg on there too. they're great, and probably would have got my vote...

jaguar ride 02-25-2009 06:26 PM

either Can or Amon Düül II. i need to get ALOT more prog though.

^^^Would typically vote for Pink Floyd out of loyalty, but since they'll win anyway, I'll use my vote for Comus since your vote was disqualified...

Megadead2 03-01-2009 09:39 PM

I know it's the cliche choice, but I went with Pink Floyd. Their grace and restraint puts them above most other progressive bands IMO.

King Crimson and Yes also did many great things in the '70s though, and I really need to hear more Can. I also dig both Soft Machine/Robert Wyatt and Neu!, and was surprised that neither were included in the poll.

Guybrush 03-02-2009 05:19 AM

A group should only be listed if it's one you would vote for. You could add every prog band from the 70s, but there's not much point except for having a more complete list - but such a list would also contain a lot of useless info that you'd have to mentally filter out (every band with 0 votes).

A way to construct a more proper poll may be to start with one band and then just add more as they get votes by posts in the thread .. then you'd just have to make sure the people who posted actually vote for the band after it's been added to the poll.

Robotnik 03-02-2009 06:23 AM

Pink Floyd are my favorite, but King Crimson are equally great. It's impossible to really compare them since they're pretty different.

I really like Yes, Can, and Jethro Tull too, but I have more of an attachment to KC and Floyd.

I think that if they had been included, Neu! and The Soft Machine would probably have gotten way more votes than the likes of Barclay James Harvest.

[Paranoid.Android] 04-29-2009 05:14 PM

So many great bands up there.... but I had to go with Pink Floyd.

Only one thing....
No Supertramp???

Do you have to criticize everything I do?

I'm not a psychic, I don't know which bands people will and wont vote for, I added the most well known prog bands of the period, I forgot about a few yes (Soft Machine), I can't cover them all hence the other option, but I wanted to get as specific as possible.

People here tend to like the more obscure bands.

If you write a thread that I participate in and I see room for improvement, I might. You'll see it wasn't just critizism, it was a suggestion for improvement which is far more constructive than the usual trolling.

What you do with that is up to you. F.ex you can sulk or you can take the suggestion and make a new and improved 70s thread. ;)
