For Dogs, Gilmour used a splitter out and went to an amp with one and to a Leslie revolving speaker with the other and recorded both outputs. The leslie speaker really gives it that throttling liveliness.

No wonder I've never been able to quite nail it. Thanks!

I think another thing that makes his work stand out is his bends, not just that he bends, but the way he changes velocity of hisbends mid note, or does a double bend (full step bend, small release, then 1.5 step bend). Or does a bend while hitting another note. And the ghost bends! And the vibrat bends and the tremolo bends!
Boys got the bends!

I voted for A Saucerful of Secrets as my favorite Pink Floyd album - for the only reason that it has the song "Remember a Day". I only love songs with strong melodies and hooks. I care not for "atmosphere" and "textures".
So I am not a fan of Pink Floyd at all. But Remember a Day is a song I really like. |

I never heard the blues in his music until after I started playing his riffs myself, out of context of the rest of the band. And while there are many phrases from Albert King and the like, his overall phrasing is not really blues at all. Like his riff for In The Flesh or his crazy creepy riffs in Dogs. There's definitely a blues influence, but "blues" doesn't quite capture all of Gilmour to me.
