Caress of Steel despite the great name and its metal sounding name is a load of toss! 2112 though is a genuine epic and from there the band legend started to be born. This is just my opinion of course, but then again these forums are built on opinions.:D

I agree with this except that I at least liked Bastille Day off CoS. My favorite Rush would be A Farewell to Permanent Moving Hemispheric Signals.

2112 is sounding pretty awesome, I think I'll need to listen to it about 20 times before I get my head around it!

Paul Smeenus, I tip my hat to your awesomely wonderful name. Good job.

Hemispheres, for sure, followed by Permanent Waves, Moving Pictures, and Caress of Steel

Is there any way we can get a poll going with this? I've only caught a few Rush tracks (love the song Tom Sawyer) and don't know which album I should start with. I guess I'd be going for whatever has either the heaviest, or the most psychadelic sound.

I agree on Bastille Day but I also like Lakeside Park.

If you like Tom Sawyer then definitely buy Moving Pictures. It has their other big hit Limelight and some other very tasty offerings.

I'd also recommend Exit Stage Left, its a live album that encompasses some of the better Rush songs throughout the years.

Might I suggest coming into http://plug.dj/musicbanter/

It's a chatroom where everybody gets a chance to play a song in turn. It's a lot of fun and if you're in with me I could play some Rush stuff to see if you'd like it, plus you might hip me to some new stuff too. A lot of us hang out there, usually in the evenings (stateside)

Neat! I'm on there right now, room appears to be empty.

It's always a pleasure to discuss the music of Rush! I'll pick five favorites:

5. '2112' * ( Unquestionably when Rush truly became RUSH)!

4. 'Rush' ( For no other reason except they NEVER sounded like that again).

3. 'Permanent Waves' ( Arguably the ONLY Rush album that had a "happy medium" with early fans as well as new fans who appreciated where their "new" sound was headed. In short order, LESS can be MORE! This album is the proof).

2. 'Power Windows' ( Great songs, great production, and great songwriting! Perhaps Neil Peart's best lyrical content EVER, and that's really saying something! CRIMINALLY UNDERRATED. If my #1 pick hadn't been created, 'Power Windows' would arguably be the greatest Rush album ever recorded ).

1. 'Moving Pictures' ( Yes, this remains their biggest selling album to this day, but there's a reason for that. All killer, NO filler! If we're being honest, a band or artist's biggest seller ISN'T always their best. 'Moving Pictures' is a RARE exception to the rule. A true work of excellence ).

* 'Signals' comes DAMN CLOSE to '2112' though! But I digress. :D
