Just wanted to drop in and congratulate you on how well this club is going. Even the PRAC seems to have fallen, but you're going great guns here. Well done. Seems to be very popular.

I'm ready with my thoughts on the album using the previous list of questions so here it is...

What were your impressions of this album after the first five minutes?

Above average late 60's psychedelic rock.

Did those first impressions change as you listened to the album?

No.

Were the opening 2-3 tracks or the closing 2-3 tracks stronger?

Definitely the first 3. They also happen to be my favorite songs on the album.

Did you find you enjoyed this album more or less on repeated listens?

This one seems to improve over several listens.

What was your favourite track?

San Francisco Girls (Return of the Native).

What was your least favourite track?

Unlock My Door. Not bad but didn't do much for me musically or vocally.

What did you think of the variety of tracks presented?

Good mix of originals and covers with a late 60's psychedelic rock sound throughout.

How would you describe the overall mood?

I can't think of a specific mood being evoked but the album sounds like a cross between two late 60's California rock bands; The Music Machine and The Doors.

Would you listen to it again for purposes other than this club?

Yes.

How well do you know this band/artist?

Have heard their other albums, also.

If you're familiar with this band/artist, how does this album compare to their other work?

This is my favorite album by the band.

How would you improve this album?

Can't think of anything I'd want to change about it.

Would you recommend this album to a friend?

Yes.

Will you be exploring this band/artists' other material?

Already heard it.

What did you think of the vocals?

Very good.

What did you think of the instrumentation?

Well played.

What did you think of the production?

Well produced.

Any other thoughts to share?

Nothing else to add right now.

Rate the album out of ten. No decimals!

8/10

Psy-Fi reminded me that I forgot to post the questions. Here they are…

Thanks, TH. Couldn't have set it up without your assistance.

What were your impressions of this album after the first five minutes?
Old school 60’s era San Francisco psychedelia.(although they were from Texas)

Did those first impressions change as you listened to the album?
No

Were the opening 2-3 tracks or the closing 2-3 tracks stronger?
Opening 2-3 are stronger although I do love the version of Clancy on here at track 8.

Did you find you enjoyed this album more or less on repeated listens?
More

What was your favourite track?
San Francisco Girls - It’s the “hit” I guess and it’s what first attracted me to the album. It’s a great song.

What was your least favourite track?
Filigree and shadow - I like all the songs including this one so I picked it just because of the orchestration.

What did you think of the variety of tracks presented?
I think there is good variety, some heavier stuff, some lighter stuff. Some different instrumentation throughout. Some very garage rock type stuff and some pure psych stuff.

How would you describe the overall mood?
Pretty rocking for the most part. Good garage rock.

Would you listen to it again for purposes other than this club?
Yes

How well do you know this band/artist?
Pretty well, heard 2 other albums by them. I own this one on vinyl.

If you're familiar with this band/artist, how does this album compare to their other work?
It’s still the best but the other albums I have heard are also good.

How would you improve this album?
I was going to say less cover songs but I actually like what they did with the covers. So I got nothing.

Would you recommend this album to a friend?
Yes

Will you be exploring this band/artists' other material?
Yes - Already have in fact

What did you think of the vocals?
Love the vocals, very John Kay sounding in parts.

What did you think of the instrumentation?
Love the guitars, great keyboards.

What did you think of the production?
I think it’s a good sounding album. You can pick out the different instruments easily, vocals are mixed nice and high.

Any other thoughts to share?
I am biased towards this album a bit as it has a nostalgic factor for me. First time I tried LSD we listened to this album. Used to play it quite a bit growing up. I think it’s up there with some of the other classic albums from the era.

Had exams this week and didn't have a chance to get to this until today.

What were your impressions of this album after the first five minutes?
Solid late '60s Americn psych.

Did those first impressions change as you listened to the album?
Not at all.

Were the opening 2-3 tracks or the closing 2-3 tracks stronger?
Hmmm… It's close but probably the closers.

Did you find you enjoyed this album more or less on repeated listens?
About the same really.

What was your favourite track?
"Day Tripper/We Can Work It Out". The way they wove in "Norwegian Wood" and "Eleanor Rigby" was cool.

What was your least favourite track?
None really. They were all brilliant.

What did you think of the variety of tracks presented?
Lots of it. It ranged from garage rock to almost baroque pop at times.

How would you describe the overall mood?
Fairly upbeat.

Would you listen to it again for purposes other than this club?
I certainly will.

How well do you know this band/artist?
Never heard of them.

If you're familiar with this band/artist, how does this album compare to their other work?

How would you improve this album?
See vocals question.

Would you recommend this album to a friend?
Absolutely.

Will you be exploring this band/artists' other material?
Most certainly.

What did you think of the vocals?
This was my only complaint. The singer's had a rough edge at times, and I felt it would have sounded much better with a smooth sound.

What did you think of the instrumentation?
Nice variety, especially with the horns.

What did you think of the production?
Didn't notice it or lack of it, which usually means good.

Any other thoughts to share?
I loved this. Nice pick, Moss.
