You should check out Giles, Giles & Fripp. The band before King Crimson, their album The Cheerful Insanity of Giles, Giles & Fripp is flawless.

Eh, their not really a prog group. Sort of psychedelic pop. I dig it, but not that much.

Malicious Wakizashi 04-13-2008 09:46 PM

Well since this is a thread about King Crimson and Giles, Giles & Fripp has two of the founding members of King Crimson, I thought it was relevant. They are a bit more poppy, but I dig their witty lyrics though their music is really good too. There's some classics there.

Well Discipline is just as much a pop album.

Steve Wilson (Porcupine Tree) managed to get together some of the members of KC, although just for one day.

I am still rooting for temporary/simbolic reunion of the Red team (plus David Cross on violin), because reunion of the whole group is impossible because of the Fripp-Lake relationship (well, Wetton could step in).

Kole 10-13-2009 12:36 PM

Huh, I forgot to mention why the reunion - they joined together in Air Studio in London for re-recording of albums In The Court of the Crimson King, Lizard and Red in 5.1 technic.

King Crimson yay.

And In the Court of the Crimson King? Yeah, it's classic, it's a huge influence, but it's marred by one thing. Its name is "Moonchild". It's a nice three-minute song, with about ten minutes of shapeless improv. The definitive version would be the one on 1991's Frame By Frame, which dumps the improv, much to the song's improvement.

Anyway, reccommendations, if you get Court, Larks' Tongues in Aspic, Starless and Bible Black and Red, I think that's the definitive King Crimson.

God i love these guys! Robert Fripp proves his creativity with odd-time signatures and interesting songs. I just love to hear their songs since i was 10

The last three are the brilliant KC trilogy with John Wetton on bass and vocals. Court one of the greatest prog albums of all time.
