i don't mind arguing with anyone, but when the other side of the argument ignores my points, does not address anything I say and cherry-picks responses to try to make his own point, then I'm done. Now he's making out Morse is not prog! FFS! The guy who founded Spock's Beard, around whom most of his contention is revolving, and he now conveniently decides he's "more rock". Well I have news for him: it's PROG ROCK, so rock encompasses prog too. Joe Satriani I don't know: I doubt I'd call him prog. But the bigger bands like Dream Theater (even if I don't like them), Marillion, IQ, Pendragon .... none of these are being referenced. So no: I won't debate with someone who has their head stuck in the sand and refuses to even engage any of the issues I raised. Waste of time.
And Frownland, I know: don't bother. But I've changed. A little....

I remember I got to see Musical Box twice - loved them. At the same time they had an Aussie Pink Floyd cover band, but didn't go cause those tickets were fetching around $200. It's all about supple & demand. The Musical Box tickets didn't go for that much. Last show I went was Steve Morse & Joe Statriani (Satch headlined). So it was an arena size concert, but it practically sold out the venue.
THere you have it. Apparently someone is not reading this thread with much accuracy.

So you get a minor point. Good for you.

Morse with the Dixie Dregs was pretty much prog/fusion/rock.

You're still side stepping Troll's argument.

Okay, I admit I got it wrong, but who exactly is Steve Morse, and why bring him into this discussion if he's not a prog head?

Whether or which, the fact still stands that you have, as Chula points out, neatly avoided every point I've made. For your convenience, I'll list them again:

Big prog bands: Spock's Beard, IQ, Marillion, Arena, Kamelot, Pendragon, Dream Theater, Gapacho, etc etc etc. All doing well, all playing music either without computers or with the assistance of but still playing real instruments.

Big prog festivals thriving. The point about festivals is that they are once a year, so saying the fact that they only run once a year doesn't prove they're popular is like saying Donington or Download are not popular. They always sell out.

Prog Archives. Check it out and tell me those bands aren't good. Look at their top lists for this or last year.

I'm not even going to get into the vinyl vs CD argument, because I don't see what relevance that has to the discussion at all.

Vinyl vs. CD is a relevant argument to anything?

Not if we were merely teaching each other something. There was no disagreement, no conflict. It was more along the lines of "Really? I didn't know that. Cool."

Okay, you're right there.
I guess I meant agreement in the sense of people all agreeing that something is cool/sucks/etc., patting each other on the back and moving on, which is nice and pleasant, but not that interesting.

Yeah, but then we go over the reasons why we think or believe that, and we find we have a lot of the same views and teach ourselves some new ones to back our views up.
