Because conflict stimulates thought, while agreement doesn't.*

*This thread isn't that interesting though, since the OP conveniently ignores every point made by others, so it's more of a random scuffle than a real argument with actual arguments being played off against each other.

Actually, I've had some really interesting agreements throughout the past. However, people ended up agreeing on different reasons, so we taught each other something once we discussed them.

So there still was some kind of conflict.

Not if we were merely teaching each other something. There was no disagreement, no conflict. It was more along the lines of "Really? I didn't know that. Cool."

Okay, you're right there.
I guess I meant agreement in the sense of people all agreeing that something is cool/sucks/etc., patting each other on the back and moving on, which is nice and pleasant, but not that interesting.

i don't mind arguing with anyone, but when the other side of the argument ignores my points, does not address anything I say and cherry-picks responses to try to make his own point, then I'm done. Now he's making out Morse is not prog! FFS! The guy who founded Spock's Beard, around whom most of his contention is revolving, and he now conveniently decides he's "more rock". Well I have news for him: it's PROG ROCK, so rock encompasses prog too. Joe Satriani I don't know: I doubt I'd call him prog. But the bigger bands like Dream Theater (even if I don't like them), Marillion, IQ, Pendragon .... none of these are being referenced. So no: I won't debate with someone who has their head stuck in the sand and refuses to even engage any of the issues I raised. Waste of time.
And Frownland, I know: don't bother. But I've changed. A little....
