Also, I hate to say this but Avril Levine embodies what, in my opinion is wrong with punk music today. Her music is not original and fits into the same mold as most other pop songs, about boys meeting girls, breaking up ect ect ect. All this would be fine IF SHE DIDN'T CONSIDER HERSELF PUNK! punk isn't just someone wearing slightly rockerish clothes, punk is a set of ideals, political and social. So having a little pop tart like her running around makes people think that she represents what punk is but she doesn't at all, so now we have all these people out there thinking they're punks, but they're the same as they were before, without any oroginal ideas, just wearing black. It pisses me off.
But i will say, i think she's got a great voice :hphones:

meh, i can't stand her voice, or her for that matter. she acts like she's so origninal and above all the marketing ploys that other artists use, but the reality is that she's just as contrived as any boyband. but then again she's making a ****load of money so i doubt she gives a crap what anyone thinks of her. still doesn't make her less of a whiney, annoying little brat.

did any of you see her on saturday night live this week? she really tore it up on the guitar, y'all....

They used to be a punk band back in the day... you should check them out. Tore it up on the guitar? Yes, i witnessed the display of bar chords and simple tablature, it was great she came close to Teppei (Thrice) and Jimi Hendrix with her amazing skills. (Yeah that was sarcasm Jibber.) I saw that one video where she walked in the rain...HARDCORE!! avrils doesnt consider herself punk. i read an article that quoted her as saying:"i dont know why everybody sees me as this badass pubk chik with no respect for the rulkes. im not even a punk!". is that not the stupidest thing youv ever read? her manager does though. you know that before she "made it big" she did a duet with celine dion in canada? but she is one of the things that is really sh!tting me in music. she is one of the leading factors that is popularising punk. she is getting all the 12 yr olds into "punk" and then into bands like simple plan and blink (i have no respect for such bands...sorry to anybody out there)
and then they rock up to festivals and gigs and act so tough like they know all there is about music and they come in here and bitch about bands that play for their fans, not their record labels. punk begun as an underground movement. i would hate to see it become the top 40 and that crap. that would ruin the genre and kill off the true "punk" bands. doesnt "punk" mean to go against the mainstream anyway? let us all hope that the genre does not get overrun by the corporations and ceo's of the music industry today

Avril would be better if she wasn't on the cover of all the kids magazines and on kids programmes and stuff. She says she hates people calling her stuff pop music. Maybe she should stop making it then. She acts like she's a skater, but she actually admitted she can't skate. I reckon she should go away for a year, learn how to play better, change the image and then she can come back.
