Default Afi

Just wanted MB's thought on AFI's first albums (a fire inside EP, Very Proud of Ya, Shut Your Mouth and Open Your Eyes, and Black Sails in the Sunset). Revisited my AFI collection and forgot how sweet they used to be. anyone else used to be into AFI at all?

I sort of dug them when I was in high school. I remember it was a fad to wear an a.f.i shirt with the cat, even before they became super-mainstream..so I kind of got turned off...they were aight.

Sing The Sorrow is when they took a turn for the worse, in my opinion.

I got into them when they released Sing The Sorrow back in 2003 and i tought it was an amazing album at the time. They were actually my favourite band for about 2 years after that. Their back catalogue is better though, my favourite records are Black Sails In The Sunset, All Hallows EP and The Art Of Drowning. When they released Decemberunderground i thought it was ok at the time. But the more i listened to it the less i liked it, plus i'd started to get into better stuff at this point. They're a completely different band now than when they started out, i don't know whether it's progression or maturity or selling-out or all three. I'll probably check out their new album when it comes out just out of curiosity, it might surprise me.

I still have 2 AFI t-shirts in my closet at home. I have one with the Sing The Sorrow style logo and the 'i hate punk rock' one which was my favourite.

I have this feeling the new afee album is gonna blow.
Maybe it's the awful album art:

Or maybe it's because Davey Havok now looks a combination between Morrissey and Brad Pitt:

...or maybe it's because the new song is less than mediocre.

Or maybe it's because AFI started sucking a long time ago.

So untrue. It is by far their best album, especially riff-wise. I'm still blown away by some of the guitarwork on the album. Then again, I also liked decemberunderground just as much as The Art of Drowning and Shut Your Mouth and Open Your Eyes so...

Yeah Davey's voice isn't what it used to me. I heard a leaked track and even though the sound quality wasn't great Davey's voice sounded really deep and lacked the energy and passion it once had.

As for that album cover it looks like sh!t. It looks like the kind of album art some dodgy classic pub rock band would have on their one and only album.
