I think that hip hop tends to be repetitive in the similar way to minimalism where it's building off of an idea instead progressing to a new one. If you want interesting song structure, Shabazz Palaces is the be-all-end-all of hip hop in that aspect.

I'm going to need a while to digest this, but so far, it seems pretty promising. I certainly like a lot of what is going on musically and it seems like it moves forward more. You could argue that I'm stuck in a certain mindset, where I expect music to develop over time in a certain way, but I find this to be very hard for me to change. I managed to get myself to appreciate harsh vocals, music without a beat, atonal music, dissonance... but those were all things that felt objectionable to me in some way to begin with. It seems easier to learn to appreciate things that seems sort of repulsive at first, than it is to learn to like that which just seems downright boring. Repetition (mostly) just bores my tits off. Can't help it.

Well you are.

The Batlord 12-04-2017 04:43 PM

Well your bread is certainly being buttered.

Frownland 10-09-2018 08:49 AM

Glenn Branca is pretty heavy.

This is my favorite punk song. It really speaks to my situation.

Maybe it's just positioning logistics.

Frownland 10-09-2018 08:10 PM

Not in Frownland, where the blunts are huge, the beers are strong, and the asses are fat.

The Batlord 10-09-2018 08:18 PM

And the smiles are turned down on the stereo.

The Batlord 10-09-2018 09:20 PM

Of course. A bit of metal and a bitch gotta eat a bullet.

I'm just saying I think all elph needed to know about Killing Joke was metal but if he'd never heard that he'd be down.

I don't how know anyone can not like this awesome bass sound and those drums at the end:

Also they were the best at combining great melodies with massive grooves once they went full-blown industrial metal:

what about when they weren't metal

The Batlord 10-10-2018 05:05 PM

I doubt he'd stop sneering long enough to give that an honest shot.

Yes. I can't tell you why I like this album cover as much as I do though. Someone with a degree in the arts could probably tell me why it's great though. Oh, "My War" is one of the first songs I learned on guitar too. You can blame my mom for getting me obsessed with Black Flag in my teenage years.

OccultHawk 05-31-2020 04:48 PM

It’s a great album cover. Really ****ing menacing.

I see it looks like a puppet holding a knife but I swear I’d like to read an interview where he clarifies it for sure.

Dolly birds and Spies is another classic album, and the title track is on my turntable all the time.

It is, some people thought it was a boxing glove punching a puppet, with a knife.. but it was said to be the puppet holding the knife, which is why they added that tie.

All that definition crap is fine & dandy but 90% of "punk rock" is absolute ****. Any & all 'good' punk like anything is imbedded w/ poppy hooks & melodies, that's why the Ramones were so brilliant. 1977 was such a legendary year cuz of the Ramones leave home & rocket to russia albums along w/ all the other classics. Skrewdriver's 1st lp was top notch & above & beyond the majority of the other u.k bands , & in the early/mid 80s they continued w/ great stuff ,wasn't til 87 that they got ****ty w/ the viking metal crap...but going back to the Ramones- what made them so great was that they drew so much from the likes of Brian Wilson, Jan Berry & Spector. No punk rock band in the past 4+ decades has come ANYWHERE near rocket to russia or Pleasant dreams, except for the Queers w/ don't back down .. phenomenal lp. There were a handful of great u.k bands like Blitz & Cock Sparrer...& a small handful of California bands like the Dickies, Surf Punks, Gears, X, Angry Samoans, Fear...but the hardcore era got lame real quick as did that anarchist-hippie trash , **** that... bubblegum is #1 , good music will Always be based on pop.

KimBertrand 02-21-2021 12:32 PM

In another thread he said anyone who dislikes the ramones is a waste of life and tbh I just like poking ant nests

Marie Monday 02-21-2021 12:39 PM

fair enough. Anyway I'll forgive anyone for talking **** about the Ramones and X if they like Bikini Kill

Ayn Marx 05-17-2022 04:22 AM

Even though I appreciated the original Sex Pistols ‘The Queen Ain’t No Human Being’ decades later all punk sounds to my ears like the same tired joke being told over and over and over. But hey, all Gilbert & Sullivan operetta strikes me the same way.
