Similar, yes. Outgrowth? Considering that punk and industrial started at the same time I find it hard to believe unless you can explain otherwise.

nice thread =D, "This exposure has led some punk fundamentalists to regard the current state of punk as being “dead.” I agree to a certain extent, you dont see or hear about nearly as many people wanting anarchy and living the punk lifestyle to the extreme like it used to be in the 80's and early 90's. Punk seems to be more or less just a fashion now.

Hi I have been reading these boards for a while as a guest and decided to join, but I have to ask-why is there a constant need to label music and give sub genres?.

Of course you need to de-classify music to a certain extent, but when I explain a certain album to a friend etc-I need to simplify matters. Pigeon holing music into specific areas makes music lose it's appeal IMO.

For example-THE BEATLES- no I'm not the biggest fan, but how can you really classify them? POP?-YES! ROCK?-in their day-YES! EXPERIMENTAL-yes!, AVANT GARDE-yes!. So what sort of band are THE BEATLES?

They are a more complex band admittedly, but surely we can reduce the genres?

Music should never divide people-it should bring people together.
