Yeah that is true.... also this is a FORUM what else is it for than discussing things?

Chicken And Waffuls 05-23-2006 06:29 PM

after really looking into it punk has not changed much. its still an attitude and music. some of it has gone for the worse like clothing and comercializing(sp?) it. I still feel punk is dead because most of the bands that are very popular suck and most of the bands that are un signed are unpopular are great.

tdoc210 05-23-2006 06:37 PM

and thats why post-punk is the best

Punk influence music that came afterwards.
If you`re expecting your typical three chord shouty stuff don`t bother.

Chicken And Waffuls 05-24-2006 03:51 PM

The stooges are proto-punk. They were a band before the term punk was applied to music, and are credited as a major influence on punk rock which was soon to come, but can't actually be considered part of the genre themselves from a historical perspective, because it didn't exist yet. Post-punk refers to bands that came after the genre's alleged death (i.e. the 80s onward)

ithinkmybabyisacommunist 05-25-2006 09:19 AM

Punk NEVER died, it just passed out

eherenma 05-25-2006 12:33 PM

Punk was less a musical genre than it was an attitude or mantra. If you listen to "Punk" bands from the '70s like Television, the Velvet Underground, Wire, and even the Sex Pistols and the Ramones, they sound nothing like the "Punk" bands today. Like jr. said, Punk was about social consciousness, activism, and a whole lot of rebellion. Though I personally think the genre has gone rather stale, there are a few bands out there upholding the original ideas behind Punk.

MURDER JUNKIE 05-25-2006 12:52 PM

Which ones?? I can't name any :(

Quit being so cliche its annoying. Punk isn't dead, a genre of music can't die. Unless all the music is burned and wiped from everyones minds. This debate gets way old..

mosesandtherubberducky 05-25-2006 07:01 PM

Was it even said punk is dead in here?

ithinkmybabyisacommunist 05-25-2006 09:06 PM

Punk has changed, by creating loud guitars, and quiet bass...
Old punk has louder bass, quieter guitars...
