It sucks now

yes, you can quote me

explosions-in-my-pants 03-29-2006 11:32 AM

now its just seems to be annoying punk.. or pop punk which i really like.. i like what punk has come to.. cause well i don't really like many punk, punk bands.. aside from Black Flag.. other then that i don't like any 80's or 90's punk bands... just pop punk..

GI germs 03-30-2006 05:26 PM

punk hasn't changed a whole lot, only now we have mainstream bands a la good charlette or green day, convincing rotc kids that they're rebels.

if anything else, it's just that punk is being confused with bands like linkin park and evenescence (yeah, i've heard people call those bands punk).

tdoc210 03-30-2006 05:54 PM

^ linkin park is like soft rap metal

boo boo 03-30-2006 06:10 PM

Its been going a little downhill since the late 80s, but there are still some good "true" punk bands around, they are just harder to find.

mosesandtherubberducky 03-30-2006 06:42 PM

Sadly there aren't too many easily findable new great punk bands. Unlike Hardcore :(

Wow that was ignorant, Against Me!, Caustic Christ, Leftover Crack, and Propagandhi are all "annoying punk" and pop-punk?

hey i love pop punk.. and Angainst is alright.. but i HATE Propagandhi, and NOFX... they seem to be very punk to me.. not like Black Flag, or Misfits, but they have the late 80's and 90's sound of punk to them which i hate.. but i love love love pop punk..

jr. 03-30-2006 07:03 PM

Well, I lived through the original wave, and although it wasn't to my liking, it seems to me that it started out with a base core of fans, back in the mid to late 70s.

The difference between punk and rock of that time was, rock had the defiance thing going, they were pretty much saying to authority, "Here's us, we don't care what you think is wrong with us", while punk was saying, "Here's what's wrong with you" Punk had much more of a social conscience.

As with anything that gains in popularity, more bands picked up on the sound and the look, and the snarling attitude. Only trouble was, they didn't bother to bring along the true essence of what punk rock is all about: Rebellion. Oh, sure, they looked like rebels. Sounded like rebels, etc, etc. But it was done tongue in cheek, instead of fist in mouth, like real punk.

Anyway, I was never a big fan of punk, so I can't really give a bunch of examples. This is just the opinion from someone on the outside looking in.

Chicken And Waffuls 03-30-2006 08:29 PM

dont hate you know its true. ask yourself this. how is the scene from where you live?

sleepy jack 03-31-2006 08:37 PM

Punk's not dead, the scene here is awesome and theres still punk bands out today another thing, how can a genre of music die?

Georgia never quite had a scene, so it is doing as good as it was a while ago. Probably better, although Flordia is producing some good bands as of late.

hookers with machineguns 03-31-2006 10:22 PM

The localized anarcho and crust stuff is still pretty strong. A lot of fans including these musicians are still stuck talking about the same 80s hardcore punk bands, and uh, I have no problem beating that to death another few more decades.

i believe this to be the most ignorant statement on this whole web site, open youe eyes and ears dude PUNX NOT DEAD, IT'S JUST PASSED OUT, and by the way not all punk musicans are talentless obviously if a punk band has fans they must be doing something right.

its true, ive seen and played with punk bands that could cover just about any blues/jazz/metal song that you wanted them to and do it just as good as the originals.

ithinkmybabyisacommunist 05-18-2006 09:19 AM

yea most punk musicians, thats all they do is play thier instruments, and go to shows and drink

Fenixpunk 05-18-2006 09:23 AM

the guitarist for Malignus Youth has written and performed music with a 20+ orchastra section, it wasnt punk by any means but it definetly displayed his talents as being both an awesome guitarist and a very creative music writer.

ithinkmybabyisacommunist 05-18-2006 09:25 AM

well i cant say I've preformed with a 20+ orchstra section, allthough it would be interesting to hear as well as play in

LuckyTheDonkey 05-18-2006 12:08 PM

Hey xholx why the x's in your name? are you actually edge or are they there cos it looks cool?

Chicken And Waffuls 05-18-2006 03:19 PM

i agree with you that there are amzing muscians in punk (i.e. the minutemen, jello, sturg, refused, ect.) but they are over shadowed by bad punk bands like rancid. i dont even consider them punk. punk is supposed to be undergound and unsigned but no one listens to those bands. i post underground bands all the time and no one reponds or I am crtisized (sp?) for only listening to those bands. when you see afi videos on myspace you know its dead. its played out. all people want is money now.

how punk is it to be talking on a forum. the people here are old guys who are punk but arent involved in the scene anymore or kids from the suburbs who only can get bands at the mall.

if you notice im only here while at work, this old guy is involved in the scene. I help bring touring bands here, find them a place to play, a place to sleep, make sure they get paid fairly before they have to head to the next city. I help with promoting the shows as well as designing flyers, websites, album artwork for new local bands. Ive been in a band since i was 15..(thats 14 years for those who cant do the math)...

Well not a real lot... except going to gigs and seeing "punk" kids running around with x's on there hands. Its become just another trendy thing to do. What i find even more anoying is the fact most of them are underage so they cant really drink anyway and when they do hit 18 they start drinking like fish.

Raine 05-21-2006 03:05 PM

I grew up with the Clash, Dead Kennedy's, Love & Rockets, and the Ramones so I can honestly say that today's punk, today's music while we're at it is going down the drain a little.
This is the punk forum so I'll limit my rant.

Bands like The Clash and the Ramones weren't in the music biz just for the publicity. They were in it ebcuase they liked it and were good at it. Bands today just don't care about hwat they say as long as someone buys their records and they can hit platinum three times over. And that's jut not what it's about.
The crowds are different too. Maybe seven years ago I went to Warped Tour and I saw Green Day and I think it was 311, and they rocked and the crowd was loving it. I go to Warped Tour nowadays and the crowd is half dead and there's a Britney Spears look a like standing beside me trying to avoid breaking a nail in the pit. What the fudge?
ANd i know you guys know what I'm alking about.
Part of the problemw ith today's punk is that the bands are becoming too commerical and soliciting every audience they possibly can to get notice, adn letting the crowd's opinion influence them tot he point where they all sound the same and they all sound like garbage.
That's the problem. Less mainstream and more undergroud is the solution to better music.

Peace

tdoc210 05-21-2006 03:25 PM

like i went to a show yesterday...and for some reason..people jsut stood their, and then threy yelled at us wehn we started a mosh pit thing..and i was like ermm k....and it wa sgood music too... there were jsut these kids on the sidelines who got pissed cause they couldnt see cause of the mosh pit...

ithinkmybabyisacommunist 05-21-2006 04:09 PM

yea i hate it when i go to like say a local show and the kids there get pissed cause SOME of us want to move around and dance

stakeraiser 05-22-2006 05:21 PM
