Listen to the Minutemen
They played from 1980-1985, and they are definately the greatest punk band ever.

Word.

Word. There's an awesome minutemen fansite, I would post it again, but it's in one of the other minutemen threads.
Way ahead of you buddy.
yea the bassist (forgot his name) is one of the best bassists to ever pick up the instrament. did you know if you get the vinyl of double nickels on the dime you get three extra songs. THREE EXTRA SONGS!!!

It's funny, Mike Watt (the bassists), was incredible in the Minutemen, but have you heard his later stuff...garbage.

exactly,he can play bass well but after hearing his later stuff its obvious D. Boon was more the creative force whereas Watt was more of a promoter and carrier of their legacy. Has anyone seen "We Jam Econo"...amazing
ive never listened to this band, but there on SST records with black flag/descendents et all, and since people are sayin there the best punk band ever, i guess i should check them out.
whats a good album to get on soulseek? |

im looking on soulseek for double nickels on the dime, and im getting lots of results - its downloading now. This album sure has alot of songs
i listened to double ncikels on the dime, well its not what i was expecting. i was expecting something along the lines of black flag, but this band arent really the same at all. they're funky as fuck. the thing that struck me most is the rhythm section, which is really awesome.
Its different, but iliked this, they seem a real talented band. |
UPDATE: Ive fallen totally in love with this album, theres not a bad song on it, saying something considering theres 43 songs on the album. the bassist is amazing, the guitarist has some amazing sh'it and the drummers pretty damn good too. I've never heard a punk album this diverse.
Ive downloaded Paranoid Time and What Makes a Man start Fires as well now, i'll be listening to them soon. this band are fast becoming one of my favorites |
My favorite band of all time. Double Nickles is a classic. Just listeneing to it encouraged me to pick up bass,Mike Watt is my hero.
Wow, i cant believe i didnt check this band out before now. I can't praise Double Nickels on the Dime enough. And its another awesome band to add to sst's roster, as well as descendents, bad brains and black flag.
SST was hands down the best rock label of the 80's.
I was reading up on SST there just now, its pretty interesting stuff. Theres some bands i'll need to check out who were on sst. Such as husker du, who i've never heard before. Hopefully theyre as awesome as Minutemen are turning out to be.
Husker Du and the Meat Puppets are possibly two of the greatest bands of all time. I love the Minutemen, but Zen Arcade beasts the shit out of Double Nickels...
Holy shi't, i'll definitely be gtting Zen Arcade then. I think Double Nickels is on its way to becoming my single favorite album of all time. I've been obsessed with Minutemen recently. Everything about them i love. Their lyrics are amazing, and Mike Watt is a genius no less.
I love What Makes a Man Start Fires as well. The Anchor, Bob Dylan Wrote Propaganda Songs, Sell or Be Sold - theres so many great songs on that as well. Paranoid Time is a little on the short side (although its an EP i guess), but it's sweet as well and much more punk centred than the other two ive heard. Im sorry i keep posting in this thread but no band has ever struck me so much as quickly as minutemen have. |
mike watt deserves much appreciation.
Minutemen
I've listened to some of Double Nickels On the Dime, it's a damn good album. Can't finish it though; 43 tracks is too damn many to burn through in one night for me.
Who here likes em? Dislike? Has the HIV? |
Doube Nickels is a good album but i can't say it's a classic, i can't help but think all the tracks are just a massive gimmick. There's obviously a lot of ideas there but they wasted it when you can't get comfortable since each song's a minute long. Overrated.
Sorry for the bump, my other post wasn't even a reply.
The songs may be extra short, but they're still good songs. I didn't have a problem listening to them comfortably. And some of the songs even crossed into the two minute mark. I'd say it's some damn good ****. |
You're becoming somewhat of a pain in the arse. Either post something constructive or just go and do something worth your time?
So I can't enjoy an album and tell others that I enjoyed it, and disagree with another person on their opinion? Fuck off.
No, there was a guy last night literally leaving stuff like GHJHH KUJ JHGMHK on all the threads, the mods obviously deleted all traces of him. My post was not directed at you in any way.
Well hell man, I'm sorry. I feel like a douche now. :(
Dont worry about it, why wouldnt you think what you thought and reply how you did? Mods fault ;)
brad nowell's (sublime) guitar playing is heavily influenced from the minutement...its really funny
jackass theme song is a minutemen song (corona) :) |
Quote:
And yeah, that Jackass theme song is wild. I guess. My favorites would be "Do You Want New Wave or Do You Want the Truth?", "The Big Foist", "God Bows to Math", and "This Ain't No Picnic". I'd say. |
I like History Lesson II a lot, and yea I agree Do You Want New Wave or Do You Want the Truth? is one of my faves as well
It's got a strange, hypnotic sound.
double nickels is the best american rock music album ever made
^ 43 songs of pure party mayhem.
party with me PUNKER!
