I think you've got it backwards. It's because the band changed their sound that they captured "mainstream attention", and that's because they changed their sound to a mainstream sound. Thus, older fans become alienated not because they grew popular with the mainstream, but because they changed their sound. Popularity was just a byproduct.

Only about as well as it is possible to like a band. Top 5.

Here. Dustin Kensrue can deliver a message through song, that expresses his fear. He just needs to abandon religion. He knows what's up. He just hopes he's wrong.

At the Last. I just picked one. It is one of many of Thrice songs I love.

Thrice - "thrice named". What is in bold red is Dustin's, problem.

It's a shame that some must go without,
I was no fool to think it might be my problem.
Needy hands were reaching out,
I kept my spare change and my pride.
And a tight fist.
(And a tight fist!)

Now at the last,
Everything has changed in this pale light
That death has cast on all I've done.
On all I've done.

I'm a good man on the whole.
Who can blame me for the guilt of another one?
I never killed, I never stole.
A small indulgence now and then -- so what of it?

I'm a good man.
I'm a good man.
Am I a good man?
I thought I was...

The rewards of this life now count for naught.
My body soon buried and left to rot.
Good times gone -- how quickly -- an honest past.
My God, now I see how I've squandered each and every breath!

Now at the last,
Everything has changed in this pale light
That death has cast on all I've done.
Now at the last,
Everything has changed in this pale light,
And looking back, I am undone.
I am undone

And, I am 'thrice named'. But, he is providing everyone with the problem. He is squandering each and every breath. But, His Words live on.

What do you think about the new album? All great bands experiment. And, Thrice demonstrates how great bands are never monotonous.

peace

TEB is a perfect of how record companies sell bands, and dictate the sound.

One great song, that is one of my favorite songs of all time.

God of Wine

Every thought that I repent,
There's another chip you haven't spent,
And you're cashing them all in,
Where do we begin,
To get clean again,
Can we get clean again,
I walk home alone with you,
And the mood you're born into,
Sometimes you let me in,
And I take it on the chin,
I can't get clean again,
I want to know,
Can we get clean again,
The God of Wine comes crashing through,
The headlights of a car that,
Took you farther than you thought you'd ever want to go,
We can't get back again,
We can't get back again,
She takes a drink and then she waits,
The alcohol it permeates,
And soon the cells give way,
And cancels out the day,
I can't keep it all together,
I know...
I can't keep it all together,
And the siren's song that is your madness,
Holds a truth I can't erase,
All alone on your face,
Every glamorous sunrise,
Throws the planets out of line,
A star sign out of whack,
A fraudulent zodiac,
And the God of Wine is crouched down in my room,
You let me down, I said it,
Now I'm going down,
And you're not even around.
And I said no...
I can't keep it all together,
I know...
I can't keep it all together,
And there's a memory of a window,
Looking through I see you.
Searching for something,
I could never give you,
And there's someone who understands you,
More than I do,
A sadness I can't erase,
All alone on your face

What do you think he is saying?

There is nothing similar between RPM and their other albums. I sometimes think how they did manage to make RPM for God's sake.

Leftist punk leaves a lot to be desired.

Most punk is leftist, the leftist stances come out of the anti-authoritarian nature of the music.

That said, Rise Against's 'politics' are annoying and preachy. Not that that matters to me much; their music isn't very good, so I don't listen to them.
