I Want A Mohawk But My Mom Wont Let Me Get One

Amazing AFI song. :offtopic:

But in all due reality.
My mom wont let me get a mohawk.
and that takes Liberty spikes down with it.
So, my question is, does anyone have any ideas on either how to convince my mom to let me get a mohawk, or any other hairstyles worth getting.

Please, and Thank you

just tell her that just because you have a mowhalk it wont change anything about you besides what you look like for a month or 2 and that the only thing it could really do for you besides you apperance is make you conciously feel better about your apperiance and that it will be gone it like a month or two anyways

Kevorkian Logic 05-07-2007 06:09 PM

If you get one, don't put super glue in it to make it stay up.
Thats all i'm saying.
You'll really regret it.

A mohawk is one of the stupidest haircuts ever.

What if his mum's a base-jumping instructor, huh?

My suggestions is that you write the following on a piece of paper.

Before the age of 14 I MUST experiment with one of the following.

1. Haircuts.
2. Drugs.
3. Automatic weapons
4. All possible avenues of sexuality.

And leave it somewhere she's bound to find it. If she brings the issue up, just repeat "It's your choice mum, your choice." Exploit your parents weaknesses, it's what they're there for!

If you end up getting grounded for eternity then at least you got there in style.

I agree. One of my ex's has one, and he has for like 4 or 5 years, periodically changing colors.
I dislike it, I have seen him one time I have seen him w/o it and he was much hotter, plus there is so much stereotyping associated with them too, like when we went to see Tenacious D the Pick of Destiny at a really conservative theatre near my house, the police stopped him and me and made us use a breathilizer (we were also being a bit rambunctious).

On the other side a couple of years ago he when his band was playing at CBGB in NY (before it closed, sadly), there was a director in the crowd and liked his Mohawk, and asked him to be a part in his movie.

So yea. I don't remember my point.

DontRunMeOver 05-08-2007 06:26 AM

Mohawks are silly because they're associated with being different yet are done so often that they are a cliche. There's nothing original about getting one, it's only really worthwhile if you want to become more of a punk lifestyler. If you get a mohawk people will assume that you're a punk and therefore a lot of non-punks will ostracise you and as you should be aware that this is going to happen by now... so in reality you will have ostracised youself.

If you just wanted an original haircut then might I point out that mohawks are not original, they've been done to death. In which case you might like to try something different such as.

1. Something like a mohawk but going from ear to ear instead of from forehead to back. You could have it going slightly backwards and dye it like a pea****s feathers. That would be brilliant.
2. Shaved down the middle in such a way that you look like an old man but grown longer at one side so that you can brush hair over the new bald part. This is called the Jack Charlton look.
3. Big afro, dyed green so that it looks like a hedge/tree and then decorated with things like fruit, birdfeeders and squirrels.

All of these are possible thus making mohawks redundant.

Kevorkian Logic 05-08-2007 03:05 PM

or just one giant spike. I would be pleased if you had one giant spike coming out of the top of your head.

cardboard adolescent 05-08-2007 03:12 PM

you're all party-poopers. mohawks are fun while you maintain the actual give-a-****-ness to keep it up.

so yeah, i was actually in this exact same situation a couple weeks ago, of course it was a bit easier for me since i'm eighteen. basically what I did was I waited until she was out of the house and then got my brother to shave my hair off. when she got back she didn't really have any choice but to help out.

i only kept it for a couple days though, and then i shaved it off. but it was fun while it lasted.

but seriously. it's a haircut. there's no reason to take it too seriously. hair grows back eventually... i wasn't looking to make any stupid statements just experiment.

one of the lines I used was that if i was gonna get a mohawk i should do it now and not in ten years when it actually matters... being young is all about experimenting. it didn't work on my mom but maybe it'll work on yours. if all else fails... just shave it and face the consequences. it'll be fun.

Trauma 05-08-2007 04:13 PM

Peer pressure on MB!

:O

PaperHurricanesAndPlanes 05-08-2007 06:51 PM

YOU LISTEN TO YOUR MOM!?!?!?! GOOD GOSH, THE FIRST RULE OF BEING A PUNXORZORZ IS HATING YOUR PARENTS, DUMBASS! Lol. Mohawks suck.

That's so true. I had a mohawk twice 2 years ago, when I thought I was punk. Once you get sick of going through the bull**** of spiking it every morning it just lays there like some retarded ferret on your head.

Mohawks aren't that great, but if the kid wants to get one he should. I got mine without my parents knowing, but they didn't care. I wouldn't get one today, but it was fun for awhile.

Mohawks aren't cliche here in Wyoming, because there are no punks and no one trying to be punk. They actually hold some of their original value of rebellion and individualism. In this kids case I'll say that not doing something you want to do just because its cliche is as bad as doing something just because everyone else is doing it. Either way you are letting society rule your own personal decisions. Just do what you want without regard for what others want you to do.

Nothing bad ever came out of my mohawk (friends abandoning me or such) except one time at the pizza place where I worked some cop told another worker not to give me my share of his tip because of my hair. Then I put his number on the list of people who can't order pizzas.

sorry for the essay of a post

swim 05-08-2007 07:49 PM

I'm moving to Wyoming and starting a scene. It's my dream.

Alexander the Grape 05-08-2007 07:59 PM

I was surprised to find out that a town an hour and a half away from me has a scene. No straight up punk, just metalcore and emo. I went to a show, and I could tell some people were doing it for the love of the music, while others were just doing it because it was in (we do get MTV out here).

A_Perfect_Sonnet 05-08-2007 08:03 PM

I hear Alaska needs a scene too. Or North Dakota.

We should set up scene franchises.

Trauma 05-08-2007 08:57 PM

Cap'n Emo!

E-mort.

American Emo.

SEARS
(Super Emo Affordably Rebellious Saviors)

Yes?

tjtech12 05-10-2007 10:17 PM

yeah, AFI are awesome. now as much now, since they play synthpop and dress like girls, but still cool. and i didn't know my little hick down in northern virginia had a scene, but apparently we do. my friend told me so and i saw a bunch of mohawk-sporting types chilling outside an old warehouse.

Actually knowing a lot of people from ND I can say that they have one of the strongest scenes in America.

Kevorkian Logic 05-13-2007 04:09 PM

This is my ex and his mohawk, he looks better without it, but its your choice if thats really what want. I just want to show you what your getting into.

Oe!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MURDER JUNKIE 05-17-2007 09:26 PM

Mowhawks are as Punk rock as pocket protectors

They are stupid and you will never hold down a job as long as you have one

Punk rock is not a haircut

End of story

655321 05-18-2007 08:25 PM

you know some people just like the style hhmmmmm? i mean oowell there are places you could work with one and that kids probally in highschool

sleepy jack 05-18-2007 09:22 PM

1. Whats punk rawkz ABOUT CONFORMITITYZ?
2. What places can you work with a mohawk? Normally they either won't hire you, or make you hide it.
3. You can have a job in high school.
4. Murder Junkie is right, punk isn't a fashion.

655321 05-19-2007 11:18 AM

i never said it was a fashion and the fact that my moms hired about 4 different people with mohawks at the used clothing store she used to own

sleepy jack 05-19-2007 03:54 PM

Privately owned businesses are different then the majority of places where teens get to work which have company policies.

Kevorkian Logic 05-19-2007 04:14 PM

actually there are a whole lot lawsuits dealing with this type of thing, because unless things like Mohawks and dress are specifically addressed in the contract between employer and employee the employer can not discriminate on appearance and can be found guilty of discrimination and can go to court. In the case that there is a clause in the contract pertaining to hairstyles/clothing there had to be a justifiable reason that the certain hairstyles/clothing is not permitted within the employers business (i.e. uniform).

If employer is found to unlawfully discriminating against employees right of expression he is liable to be sued and will probably not win the lawsuit (it depends on what state you reside in).

^Above mainly pertains to publicly traded businesses, private businesses can actually get around the law a bit more

bardonodude 05-19-2007 07:10 PM

yea, I cant agree more with crowquill, what does punk rock have to do with conformity, absolutely zilch. Conformity of fashion is the antithesis of the punk rock lifestyle.

Note the use of "employer" and "employee," where the point ethan was making was that they wouldn't hire you in the first place.

Kevorkian Logic 05-20-2007 06:20 AM

there are still laws (in some states, usually the more liberal ones) that makes it illegal not to hire somebody on the sole basis of appearance, religion, national origin, obesity, sexual preference.

I somehow thought I had implied that in previous statement. Apparently I didn't.

cardboard adolescent 05-20-2007 02:22 PM

How the **** do you regulate that? Nobody forces companies to justify not hiring someone..

Kevorkian Logic 05-20-2007 03:00 PM

If employer does not of a B.F.O.Q. the person applying for the job can go to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and file a complaint. And if the complaint is seen as violation of the law the potential employer gets in trouble somehow.

sleepy jack 05-20-2007 03:06 PM

I don't think thats true and if it is, thats ridiculous. Theres nothing wrong with wanting your employees to look friendly, and some dude with nose rings, a mohawk and tattoos probably won't present that image.

My brother works for a company and they won't hire anyone with tattoos that can't be hidden by the uniform, and they let them know if they have piercings, dyed hair or excessive facial hair has to go too. They havn't gotten shit about it.
