Reading "Straight to Hell" at the top of Screen13's link (and reflecting on the fact that Jackhammer started this thread citing that track) reminds me that I should really have included it on my list, too.
I first heard them play it when I was maybe 14 or 15 when they appeared on Saturday Night Live. It was "punk" enough for me (but somehow "Should I Stay Or Should I Go" was) so, at the time, I didn't like it. Frankly, I didn't like any of their slower songs. Then as my interest in The Clash grew, I was turned off by Combat Rock - totally unfairly, as it turns out. About a year ago, I downloaded Rat Patrol from Fort Bragg and heard the longer version of "Straight to Hell" (I'd never listened to On Broadway) and realized "holy cats, this song is amazing." So, yeah, add "Straight to Hell" to my list. Powerful lyrics, amazing music and one of Strummer's best vocals. |

Spanish Bombs probably, although almost everything on that album is gold.
Outside of London Calling, I like Police and Thieves and White Man (In Hammersmith Palais). I really dig a sick bassline. |
Rudie Can't Fail
London Calling Guns of Brixton Clamp Down |
My favorite song of theirs is Straight To Hell, second being Stay Free, third being Somebody Got Murdered. Stay Free is such an underrated tune.
|
Such a tough question! They're the band that got me into music in the first place. I spent like a year listening to nothing but the Clash. Anyway, my favorite at the moment is Guns of Brixton. London Calling and Train in Vain are also great. I particularly love the lyrics of Lost In The Supermarket. White Riot and White Man in Hammersmith Palais are also amazing. Ooh, plus Straight to Hell and Stay Free. Ok, I'll stop now before I list every song they ever made.
|
My favorite song of theirs is London Calling for sure.

When Ivan Meets G.I. Joe
Career Opportunities Janie Jones Guns of Brixton Clash City Rockers |
Bankrobber, really dig the chill reggae esque theme that goes with it. Something bold that The Clash did and it still stays true to there style.
|
Of all their "reggae esque" you pick Bankrobber?!

The Clash's debut album didn't come out in the US until 1979. |
Oh neat thanks for the info Ahhhhh Its soooooo catchy
|
Should I stay should I go..
Well..it may not be their best..but it still makes me tp get up and dance.. |
For me "Lost in the Supermarket" seems to connect with what I'm going through right now, and just always felt like this song really defined the band. I think they knew what direction they wanted to go, but did they finally get there?
|
So hard to choose, but "Rudie Can't Fail" is probably my fav.

Bank Robber

It has to be the White Man In Hammersmith Palais for me but recently I haven't been able to get Spanish Bombs out of my head.. but all Clash songs are my faves partciulary the earlier ones on Give 'Em Enough Rope and their first album.... BACK IN THE GARAGGEEEE!!
|
Police and Thieves- Early reggae influence on this one makes for some good listening.
|
Not sure about a favourite. I'd say London Calling was really their stand out album. I like a few tracks off that like Clampdown, Guns of Brixton, Lost in the Supermarket, I'm Not Down.
