Favourite Clash track?

O.K It's not a poll, due to the sheer number of Clash tracks, but I know there may be a few gems I'm missing. So what is your fave Clash track? Mine is STRAIGHT TO HELL from COMBAT ROCK. It seems so effortless from them and one of their most languorous tracks; in a good way! HATEFUL is a close second. I love the lyrics too. They suggest to me a drug dealer that brings good and bad to the Clash set-up.

Your's?

cardboard adolescent 10-10-2007 04:44 PM

Police & Thieves, Janie Jones, Spanish Bombs, Death or Glory, I'm So Bored With the USA have all been my favorites at some point or another. At this point it's probably Rudie Can't Fail.

Urban Hat€monger ? 10-10-2007 04:44 PM

I tend to like the more reggae driven stuff they did , so stuff like Armagideon Time , Ghetto Defendant & Guns Of Brixton I play a lot.

They did a show mostly based on that kind of stuff at the Jamaica Music Festival in 1982 , easily my favourite Clash bootleg.

right-track 10-10-2007 04:52 PM

Probably English Civil War.
Best example of his fractured vocals.
Apart from that I can't think of any other reason why that track entered my head first.
Spanish Bombs was another.

sleepy jack 10-10-2007 04:54 PM

I've always liked their stuff like Train Vain and Lost in the Supermarket best. So one of those two probably.

ProggyMan 10-10-2007 08:16 PM

London Calling. I think it's their definitive song.

I would really appreciate an up for this!

Piss Me Off 10-11-2007 01:21 PM

Obvious, but White Man In Hammersmith Palais. Those backing vocals still give me shivers.

ProggyMan 10-11-2007 10:06 PM

I'm suprised no one has mentioned Train In Vain.

mannequin Republic 10-11-2007 11:27 PM

I have a soft spot for Rock the Casbah.

anticipation 10-13-2007 01:27 PM

This one is not high on my list. I think the original is better.

Urban Hat€monger ? 11-14-2007 03:08 PM

Ever since I watched The Future Is Unwritten i've been meaning to download Cut The Crap , just to see if it really is that bad.

Someone stop me :(

N*S*G 11-14-2007 03:10 PM

I like how they are a punk band that doesn't even play punk.

right-track 11-14-2007 03:11 PM

How punk is that.

It works surprisingly well for them considering punk sucks.

cardboard adolescent 11-14-2007 03:33 PM

Banana Dave 11-22-2010 02:46 PM

Your Favourite Clash Song?

Apologies if this thread has appeared before but i've failed to find it. The Clash being my favourite Punk Band who i listen to probably Daily i'd be interested to hear your favourite tune and close runners from them :)

At the moment it would have to be Train in Vain for me, cannot get enough of it, closely followed by I'm not Down.

Deakin18 11-23-2010 11:54 PM

Hmm, this a tough question, but I gotta say 'Rudie Don't Fail' or 'Safe European Home'. Both are very good songs I think. But they have so many great ones.

npc210 11-29-2010 01:28 AM

"Stay Free" or "Clampdown" or "London's Burning."

My list could be totally different next week ... so many great songs.

Moriarity 12-01-2010 04:19 PM

Well some things you can explain away
But my heartaches in me till this day

thirtiesgirl 12-01-2010 07:28 PM

"London Calling" (not very original, I know), followed by "Train In Vain" and "This Is Radio Clash."

* still mourning the passing of Joe Strummer *

This Is England from Cut The Crap. Lousy album but fookin' great song.

DoucheGuy 12-16-2010 08:51 PM

The Magnificent Seven.

Joey Michaels 12-29-2010 08:21 AM

White Man at Hammersmith Palais, Clash City Rockers, Magnificent Seven, Midnight To Stevens and Clampdown would all make my short list. Probably give the edge to White Man for essentially giving birth to a whole sub genre of punk.

OccultHawk 12-29-2010 02:21 PM

guns of brixton

loveissucide 12-29-2010 06:13 PM

The Card Cheat, probably.

sleepy jack 12-29-2010 06:15 PM

White riot I wanna riot white riot a riot of my own.

Screen13 01-03-2011 05:43 PM

1 - Straight To Hell
2 - Police On My Back
3 - This Is England (A shining moment from an otherwise flawed album)
4 - This Is Radio Clash (Don't know why, but it's powerful to me)
5 - Clampdown
6 - Guns of Brixton
7 - London Calling
8 - Janie Jones
9 - The Magnificent Seven
10 - I Fought the Law
