When I see "sXe" the first thing I think is "Sexy"!

Minor Threat not only is/was straightedge. The term straight edge comes from the song "Straight Edge" by Minor Threat. Its just that MT was Straight Edge before Straight Edge became so Ppreachy and annoying. I think Ian Mckay later went on tyo be a coke head after fugazi got popular, at least that's the rumor

Part of the reason Minor Threat split up was because McKay is a preachy mofo, I mean, he defends himself by saying it's not supposed to be a set of rules it's supposed to be about being in control or whatever but he'd still freak out if anyone else in the band wanted to do anything other than drink. So, they rejected the scene, but McKay did start it, whether he likes it or not.

I heard that the whole sXe thing was modeled after Jeff Nelson, the drummer....

I found where I read that. Not exactly that Jeff Nelson started it but more or less coined the term within the band.
Quote:
According to legend, the drummer for Minor Threat [Jeff Nelson], one of the first bands to preach the "stay punk, stay clean" ethos, ...was drawing a poster for a show using a wood ruler. He commented to his bandmates that the ruler's straight edge was a metaphor for their lifestyle.
This is the URL not really a super reliable source but none the less where I heard it heh. Straight Edge FAQ

No straight edge doesn't refer to a ruler -- straight, as in not ****ed up, edge, as in better than you. Ian McKaye came up with it and Jeff Nelson thought it was too preachy and they got into lots of fights. For example, in "Out of Step" the lyrics are something like "don't smoke/don't drink/don't ****" and Jeff forced Ian to put the implied "I" in the liner notes.

Poison Idea showed exactly what they thought of Ian MacKaye on the cover of their Ian MacKaye EP

I realize what straight edge is lol. I was under the impression that the term came from that instance. Not referring to a ruler. I am straight edge myself and have been for a long time...
