Save the whales huh? So you don't care that American pop culture is a commercial wasteland that's breeding rampant hedonism and apathy toward socio-political issues that will one day, if left unchecked, cause the complete destruction of the middle class? Just trivial nonsense?

It doesn't matter at all that pop music perpetuates sheep-herd mentallity and promotes corporate exploitation that drives capitalitic greed and the gradual annihilation of our artistic values in favor of mindless materialism and conformity?

^ I love you.

I was reffering to pop in that instance. I'm a teenage american in a suburban new york city (A city that is in the state of NY that is) who was raised by a man who listens to EVERYTHING from the 50's onward. I've been exposed to everything from classical piano, blues, nu metal, country, phychodelic, indie, f****** everything. I know everything I need to know about the genre 'pop' that I need to know.

It's ridiculous, you listen to shitty metal so why troll the punk and pop forums when you can cry over Dimebags deservedly shot corpse instead?
I'm interested in genuine, objective debate, not trolling. Unfourtunately, I seem to be alone in this category.

What's the difference between 'trolling' and 'an opinion that happens to be critical of something you like'?

Whether or not pop-punk is an oxy moron is a matter of whether we define 'pop' and 'punk' as physical musica styles, or attitudes / cultures.

The 'idea' behind punk is cynicism, 'anarchy', disobedience, indivudualism.

The 'idea' of pop is nearly the exact opposite. Conformity, mainstream, straight-edge, marketability, 'popularity' etc.

It hasn't meant that for about 25 years

I'm pretty sure cynicism and individualism are still important parts of punk. The good punk, that is.

The difference is you're exaggerating your entire argument and refusing to listen to anyone else's opinion. If you're so open-minded and interested in genuine debate you should really show it at some point because I haven't seen it.

How am I not listening to anyone elses opinion? I'm constantly responding whenever someone actually makes a point, where-as most people are just getting defensive and crying over it.

I am listening to other people's opinions, they just haven't convinced me to change mine.

You still don't even know what pop-punk is.

No more or less than anyone else does. I know it's a crossover genre, I know what it is in essence. It's slightly ambigous, subjective, like most 'genres' and implicit, 'generalized' words.

See you really haven't been listening. If you have you had you'd know the first punk bands were very much "pop-punk", The Buzzcocks, The Ramones, The Damned etc all used pop structures in their music. Nice try though.
