Default Texas Punk

A wise man once said, "...since time began, Texas has poured out great bands the way that Chicopee, Mass pours out kielbasas. The ocean o' great Six-Oh Punk from the Lone Star State has only been partly charted a full 15 yrs after that decade shut down. No other area was so fertile. Maybe it was somethin' in the soil. Whatever, the collective sound o' seventies/eighties Texas p-rock has also been a cut above. Indeed, it might well prove t'be (fifteen years from now) the consistently best o' breed" (Byron Coley 1985)

That man was right. I don't think my being a Texan myself has biased me in any way when I say that old school Texas Punk is the best kind of punk music of any kind the world has even seen (even better than german punk, which is saying a lot).

So many amazing bands, and classic songs. AK47, (the legend of musical misanthorpy) Bobby Soxx, ****s, Bang Gang, Bomb Squad, (kings of crossover) D.R.I., Cringe, Ejectors, Hugh Beaumont Experience, Huns, Vomit Pigs, Terminal Mind... and too many more to name.

Any other fans of this old scene that just bloomed so wonderfully back in the day? There really hasn't been another movment like it where just about every band and every record was a winner, save perhaps Black Metal in Norway in the early 90's, but in the realm of punk, nothing before or since.

Come on, all, show your love for the greatest country on earth (Texas) and the great band it spawned! (Please don't mention MDC, though, that's the one ugly stain on the otherwise perfect record).

Texas had an excellent punk scene, my favourites are Really Red, the Big Boys, DRI, ****s and Butthole Surfers if they count which they should because they're more punk than anyone.

MDC are great man, what are you thinking!

Butthole Surfers definitely count. You know what the best part is, though? Before BS the guy was in Fearless Iranians From Hell, the #2 king of crossover after DRI. Now that's awesome.

As for MDC? Eh, I just don't like them. Much better when they were called ****s.

I didn't know Really Red was from Texas. I like Texas more now, despite that it supplied us with the worst president in history.

Besides Butthole Surfers, another band that was heavily influence or was born of punk is Rev. Horton Heat. At least the earlier stuff was good.
