I can't stress this enough. This is a timeless album. Angry teenagers turned to all this pop/punk or hardcore punk when this album intelligently and furiously talks about injustices in society. This album introduced me to 'classic' rock.

Alfred 07-14-2008 09:11 AM

I don't turn to pop-punk when I'm angry, I turn to it when I'm in a good mood. :)

DJ Phoenix 07-15-2008 02:36 AM

Dont forget GBH, a true punk band as well.

can_i_say 07-15-2008 06:09 AM

I like punk styled music played by people with socially acceptable hair cuts

I recommend

Fugazi
Leatherface
Dag Nasty
Husker Du
Paint It Black
Hot Water Music

I don't think there are many UK punk fans here. I like GBH as well as Discharge, UK Subs, Explioted, Conflict.

Some good pop-punk to check out is:

Screeching Weasel
Descendents
The Buzzcocks
The Queers

Well, classic pop-punk.

If you want some new skate-inspired pop-punk, check out Lagwagon and Millencolin. Great bands.

DJ Phoenix 07-16-2008 01:55 AM

The Buzz****s
The Descendants
The Stranglers are all great punk bands too.

The Ramones of course. The Clash, Black Flag, Exploited.

punk078910 08-01-2008 06:28 AM

Crass!

PaperHurricanesAndPlanes 08-01-2008 09:31 AM

Bad Religion. Always Bad Religion.
Limp Wrist is good.
Most of the excellent ones have been mentioned, but how about Really Red? D.O.A.? THE GERMS, THE GERMS AND THE GERMS!!!!!

Brad Stengel 08-05-2008 02:24 PM

If you're new to punk, a really good compilation to download is Rhino's, "No Thanks! The 70's Punk Rebellion". Its about 100 songs, and every single one is amazing. On top of that some good albums are:

Wire- "Pink Flag"
Richard Hell- "Blank Generation"
The Modern Lovers- "The Modern Lovers"
Television- "Marquee Moon"
Velvet Underground- "White Light/White Heat"
Iggy & The Stooges- "Raw Power"
The Germs- "GI"
The Buzz****s- "Singles Going Steady"

And while we're talking about them, let's not forget to mention Rocket from the Crypt!

Also, I don't think anyone in this thread has mentioned:

Subhumans
Fear
Seven Seconds
Reagan Youth
Generation X (who never make these kinds of lists because people either (a) think they're a one hit wonder or (b) don't realize who they are)

Dinosaur Jr. and Husker Du are another two good post-hardore bands.

Speaking of which, what do you guys consider "post-hardcore"? I generally refer to it as bands which grew from hardcore punk to experiment, generally embracing a more melodic sound/a heavy pop sound, but alot of people refer to what I call "metal-core" (Hatebreed, Therefore I Am, etc.) as "post-hardcore".

I'd say the first example and i think most people would too, it's one of those horrible vague tags though that i hate using.

Brad Stengel 08-13-2008 03:15 PM

Same here. Alot of my friends listen to Metalcore so it gets confusing when I tell them I hate their music, but I love post-hardcore bands.

Alfred 08-13-2008 03:42 PM

Well, I consider post-hardcore to be everything from Fugazi to Alexisonfire. My favorite post-hardcore band is definitely At The Drive-In. Gotta love them.

Lol.

http://www.videomusicnmp3.com/wp-con...flag-1-new.jpg

they kinda remind me of

http://evilbeetgossip.com/wp-content...6/greenday.jpg

I mean, there's the ties, the fauxhawks, the dressy clothes, the black hair, the guy with the blonde hair that kinda sticks up, the fact that they're both on major labels, and the fact that their music is poorly written political grabage.

jackhammer 08-31-2008 05:52 PM

I recently downloaded a few Anti Flag albums on a reco. Damn if YOU are saying there are bad, I am getting seriously worried ;) Are they bad?
