I'd query Bloc Party being punk. They're a great band but I don't really see much of the punky anger in their music, it's far more celebratory than angry.

The Clash are the benchmark though. Most important punk band ever.

NO that is POP punk. just like sum41 and link182 there all crap. now im not aruging with you about weather the ramones,sex pistols, and the clash werent punk but punk bands now a days and in my opinion are better then the old ones are

green day is fine, but they are not punk. but i understand why the youngones think they are. when you look at all the music played on mtv/radio, green day is certainly as punk as it will get. same with blink. bands like casualties and the exploited just look like dirty words to them.
