Best front man

yeah, yeah, another "best" thread....

For this one who is in your opinion the best singer/guitarist/songwriter past or present and why?

Oi_To_The_World 11-18-2004 03:55 PM

i dont know about best, but here are some good ones that come to mind
henry rollins, jello biafra, joey ramone, sid viscious, tim armstrong...

maybe tim shouldnt be mentioned with the rest, considering brody is gaining ground on him lately

Fenixpunk 12-03-2004 10:44 AM

I agree about Jello being one of the best, Id also have to mention GG Allin for his stage antics, and **** from Subhumans for still rocking after all these years.

Who is the best punk front man? I don't have a clue, so I'm afraid I'm bumping this thread without a comment of my own really. Sorry, Exo.

rubber soul 07-18-2018 06:17 AM

I don't know either, to be honest. Maybe John Lydon, aka Johnny Rotten. Maybe Joe Strummer. If Midnight Oil is considered a punk band, I'd go with Peter Garrett

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 07-18-2018 08:46 AM

mark e smith you dummies

Justthefacts 07-18-2018 01:36 PM

joey ramone you dunces

Church

The Batlord 07-18-2018 02:38 PM

Rotten and Jello making babies is the best.

Justthefacts 07-18-2018 02:41 PM

I retract my statement. I'm going Ian Watkins from Lostprophets.

He should go into teaching.

I think he'd be a fantastic 5th grade teacher.

Reaper 09-03-2018 10:45 PM

Lux Interior or GG Allin easily.

Chula Vista 09-03-2018 11:44 PM

There can be only one.

Frownland 09-05-2018 11:40 PM

Nah regardless of the music he's a top tier front man.

Genesis kills on this and I'll never stop sharing it

Crowquill 09-06-2018 12:58 AM

Reaper was actually me before I could figure out my old email password. I don't like GG that much but as a frontman he's literally a more extreme Darby crash. Idk what more you could want.

And you probably got it from one of the many times I've posted it over the years.

Frownland 09-06-2018 08:36 AM

I credit bob.

The Batlord 09-06-2018 08:38 AM

You choose to credit bob?

Frownland 09-06-2018 08:40 AM

Actually, I have to credit Elastic Man for that particular vid.

You weren't here in 2010.

Frownland 09-06-2018 08:46 AM

That's true. I've come a long way.

No need to front, man.

Just read the thread title. Didn't notice the thread was in the punk section. Ooops.

Clichéd answer anyway even if it wasn't a punk thread imo. Partly down to him dying as well I think.

It's not though tbh. A few decent singles and a performance at Live Aid. That was it. If he didn't cark it in the early 90s I doubt he'd be held in such high esteem now. The way it happened adds to his legend as well, similar to 2Pac's death (another guy overrated cos he carked it).

windsock 09-15-2018 04:20 PM

Wayne Coyne is a joy to see live. He's definitely a hippie but I couldn't help but smile at his namby-pamby crap about loving eachother during their Cleveland show. Does that make me weak? A commie? Both?

Wow. Just wow.

Over 150 million albums sold. 11th best selling artist of all time.

A few decent singles?????

Keep Yourself Alive
Seven Seas of Rye
Killer Queen
Now I'm Here
Bohemian Rhapsody
You're my Best Friend
Somebody to Love
Tie Your Mother Down
We Are the Champions
Fat Bottomed Girls
We Will Rock You
Don't Stop me Now
Crazy Little Thing Called Love
Another One Bites the Dust
Flash
Under Pressure
Radio Ga Ga
I Want to Break Free
Hammer to Fall
A Kind of Magic
One Vision
Friends will be Friends
Who Wants to Live Forever
Innuendo
The Show Must Go On

Just some of the rock artists that have cited Queen as a major influence:

Judas Priest
Iron Maiden
Metallica
Megadeath
Faith no More
The Melvins
Rage Against the Machine
Slipknot
Van Halen
The Cult Kid Rock
Nirvana
Radiohead
Trent Reznor
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Jane's Addiction
The Flaming Lips
Smashing Pumpkins
My Chemical Romance
Panic at the Disco
Marylin Manson

Over the years I've seen upwards of a hundred arena/stadium shows and Queen in 1977 is easily in my top 3. Freddie's also the best rock vocalist I've ever seen live.

Saying Queen was/is overrated is simply dumb. Plus they peaked both commercially and successfully for many years and over a decade before Freddie's death.

Cuthbert 09-15-2018 06:39 PM

Nobody is listening to Fat Bottomed Girls or indeed most of what you listed in 2018 come off it Chula.

The Batlord 09-15-2018 07:25 PM

I loved them when I was younger but they don't hold up so well these days. The whole silly, operatic, showtunes take on rock is too gimmicky.
