The F*cking Buckaroos, out of san francisco are pretty good. this forum won't allow me to curse, but they actually spell the name out - just in case you wanna look them up.

Yes this was the first folk punk band I truly got into as well. Unless one counts the Violent Femmes.

If you ever get a chance to hit up a Defiance, Ohio show, DO IT.
One of the top three shows I've been to thus far.

DoctorSoft 08-01-2010 03:29 PM

Defiance, Ohio would be so great to see live. wish I could.

Violent & Funky 08-07-2010 01:58 PM

If I were to download a Ghost Mice release what should it be?

swim 08-07-2010 02:34 PM

Their splits are the best with AJJ and Defiance, Ohio.

Violent & Funky 08-07-2010 03:07 PM

Cool. I already have some of each in my library but don't have the splits. Thanks... :)

+81 08-07-2010 10:27 PM

I'd rate their split with Saw Wheel a bit higher but you really can't go wrong with any Ghost Mice.

BTown 08-08-2010 01:22 PM

Is the Gaslight anteh respected/good?

Who cares if they're respected?

James 08-08-2010 01:59 PM

The Gaslight Anthem are good.

swim 08-08-2010 02:47 PM

I like them because they have this cheesy feeling to them. Senor and the Queen EP is the best.

Agreed, I like their Pretty Hot split as well, but any album is a good album for them.

And I like Gaslight Anthem too, it took a while for me to give them a chance, but after I did I found them to be surprisingly good.

swim 08-12-2010 11:13 AM

The last 3-4 songs on the Pretty Hot split are brilliant.

My favorite folk punk split is defiance, ohio and one reason. One of the gems of my record collection.

+81 08-14-2010 08:15 PM

Yeah, the Pretty Hot split is awesome too. Surprisingly, I might actually like their side a bit more if only because of 'Carlisle'.

I haven't heard the Defiance, Ohio/One Reason split but 'All Rivers Run South, All Roads Lead Home' is a pretty decent album.

Rriot Grrl 08-15-2010 12:38 AM

Blackbird Raum! They use all sorts of neat instruments to create a very unique sound.

swim 09-18-2010 11:44 AM

Oh the new Dave Dondero and Sundowner are both just golden.

Folk Punk?

Fantastic stuff. Recently I have been enjoying This Bike Is A Pipe Bomb, Ghost Mice and especially Andrew Jackson Jihad. There is something about the album Can't Maintain that is just...well great.

Thoughts, recommendations, or general appreciation of a truly underrated genre.

Violent & Funky 05-08-2012 12:09 AM

I like your tastes already, annoying one character name.

If you like those three, I would assume you've heard of my favorite band, Defiance, Ohio...

Against Me!'s first album is very folky.

You mean great, right?

Charlemagne 05-31-2012 11:24 PM

I'm pretty positive he means great. Although they aren't really folk punk.

DurdeeThurdy 07-22-2014 05:43 PM

Durdee Thurdy!

Mormo Zine 07-25-2014 08:32 PM

I saw this band called Dirty Kid Discount who I think is folk punk.

They were very good!!

ColourlessGreenTea 07-31-2014 11:50 AM

Sledding With Tigers is amazing and you can listen to their music for free on their website (I'm too new to post links but it's sleddingwithtigers . com / music-man)

Shawn Erroneous 08-25-2014 04:23 AM

We just played a house party with Dirty Kid Discount a couple weeks ago. Awesome guys.

Might be the genre I sing the most. It's a nice mix of melody, emotion and roughness.
