I'm not to big on This Bike Is A Pipe Bomb but that AJJ album is great. Although Brave As A Noun is their most popular song it really is there best. And Share What Ya Got is great, much better than The Great Depression "I Don't Want Solidarity If It Means Holding Hands With You" is probably one of my favorite Folk Punk songs. They also did a pretty good Gorilla Biscuits cover.

Spoonboy might be my favorite Folk Punk artist though, there's just such a charm to his stuff. I talked to him through email before and he actually requested me on Facebook. David Combs if any of you guys wanna look him up.
I talked to Chris Clavin of Ghost Mice too.
I'm not to into his [spoonboy] other band The Max Leviane (pr whatever) Ensemble though.

For anyone who wants to get into Folk Punk definitely get Share What Ya Got by Defiance, Ohio. The whole Folk Punk scene is great and almost Utopia like.

Pretty much anything but Can't Maintain.

Their split with Ghost Mice is my favorite. Candy Cigarettes & Cap Guns and People who can eat People are great too.

For This Bike is A Pipe Bomb I say go with Front Seat Solidarity, or Three Way Tie For Fifth, either of those will be good to start with.

Definitely People WHo can Eat Other Peopel Are The Luckiest Peopel In The World.
Some good tracks off that are Brave As A Noun, People II and People. I'd go for their split with Ghost Mice after that.

For This Bike Is A Pipe Bomb I started with Frotn Seat solidarity but I never really got to into them, maybe it was the wrong album to start with.

The appeal of folk-punk is that it combines two extremely related (at least in terms of ideals, motivations, etc.) genres and makes them funny, simple, accessible and slightly ironic. You should be listening to Kimya Dawson, Paul Baribeau, Andrew Jackson Jihad, Defiance Ohio, this bike is a pipe bomb, and anything on plan-it-x records to name some of the more well known artists.

there is also a very rich local appeal (you really should just go to your community and see what little kind of scene is surviving around you. I can almost guarantee it will have punk mixed in there somewhere). I have found a few really awesome bands in my local community, Go listen to the bones of davey jones for a good example.

punks will always be around but give them an acoustic guitar, a simple melody, a capo, and the ability to play 3 chords, they will find a way to have fun. it is like actually having a use for your tonsils, or finally teaching your cat a trick. they were just around and kinda irritating but now they are almost useful...

yeah. really like folk punk :]
