As people have said before, it's fun, relatable, simple, anyone can do it and it makes the listener feel empowered. Plus it's a mixture of two genres that play off each other pretty perfectly.

I'm not part of any folk punk scene but I think the genre has some of the best story telling songs. I also just flat out enjoy the music. It's often upbeat, catchy, gritty with ,for the most part, honest, no bull**** lyrics.

Default Violent Femmes

The Violent Femmes certainly fit the category of folk punk. Perhaps one of the first to be called folk punk.

For a long time the only band like this I listened to was Andrew Jackson Jihad. recently I got into the genre a lot more. Major standouts: Ghost mice and Defiance, Ohio
