Glad someone got it :)

I'll never understand why these 2 bands get compared so often, just because Nirvana sounded a bit like them on one song. I don't ever recall Nirvana writing spanish lyrics or being influenced by surf rock.
It's a bit like saying AC/DC should be compared to Noel Coward because Bon Scott did a posh accent on one song.

I think people want to know if the band that inspired Nirvana in some ways is appreciated as much as much as Nirvana. Which song even sounds like The Pixies really, to me its really jusy the dynamics that are similiar.

Nirvana and the Pixies are still very different bands with different character to their music. The only time the two of them really sound anyway similar is where 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' has a similar riff to the Pixies 'U-Mass'. I wouldn't say that the whole quiet-loud dynamic would really be enough to compare the two.

If you want to compare Nirvana with a band that influenced them then why not Melvins vs Nirvana, Flipper vs Nirvana or The Beatles vs Nirvana?

I'm a fan of both bands, but I like the Pixies more.

Preference based on what one knows is the best support for any decision about music likes.:yeah::yeah:

It's mainly because Cobain cited Pixies as a band that he ripped off stylistically. He was, of course, too high to use the Spanish language or play surf rock but he ran with the early-90s loud-quiet-loud thing, courtesy of Pixies. His statements RE this are pretty well documented, I think. And most popular songs by both bands use that device.

They are both great band, but I prefer The Pixies. The Pixies put more effort into their music. Kurt Cobain sings about rather depressing subjects.

Thats one of the attributes associated with Grunge. Cobain was very original and creative as a lyricist.
