What Band Got You Hooked?

So what was the first punk band/cd that got you interested in punk? Describe the situation as well as you can- how old were you, where were you, how did you get introduced to them? Also, how did your punk taste change as you got older? Be frank and honest, no one is gonna criticize you for what you listened to in the past.

My story: About ten years ago, I was in Borders bookstore when I lived in Ohio. I was with the entire fam, and I ran across... Rancid "Let's Go." Gimme a break, cause I was ten. I heard about them from a few guys in an older grade. When I grabbed the CD, I remember thinking, "Woah these guys look tough. That guy with the mohawk is flippin me off." From there, things get blurry. But, I remember grabbbing the self titled the next time around, then "Energy"- the Op Ivy CD. I kinda moved backwards in terms of punk music, it wasn't until my early high school years that I cared more about the newer punk. At some point I briefly got bored with punk, and gave away all my cds to friends and family and started listening to gangsta rap. That was brief, and eventually i got back on track. Currently I listen to a bit of everything from most genres.

Mine was when i was in about.....grade 3 (ish). My bro had started listening to some Offspring, Jebidiah and Blink. I remember he bought me 'the kids arnt alright' for my birthday. and thats how it all started

I found a punk o rama cd in a car the my dad bought. I heaerd 1998 and was hooked. I searched the car for like 3 days afterwards looking for other lost cds. I bought a propaghandi cd and things just went from there. I got into hardcore a little bit before that but 1998 was my turn on to punk. Now its baisically evolved to loving everything

Ive been listening to the sex pistols and queen ever since my mum was pregnant with me, my dad used to put it on for me to listen to (Sounds wierd, i know) but Ive just been listening to them for all those years, and I developed my own taste when I was about 10 I think...

Fenixpunk 01-31-2005 09:55 AM

Exploited - Live on Stage was the first punk album i heard, along with the Blatz/Filth split and Dead Kennedys - Bedtime For Democracy. Since that day (12 years ago) I burried myself in punk. for the longest time i disected every piece of music i could get my hands on, and picked up anything that looked remotely interesting.

riseagainstrocks 01-31-2005 10:10 AM

5th grade. Offspring's song The Kids Aren't Alright. Radio.

After that my older friends gave me some Ramones, Greenday, Rancid, Op Ivy, that sorta thing. In 8th grade I really liked Anti-Flag.

jesus 01-31-2005 10:21 AM

the Casualties and Dead Kennedys got me hooked. Casualties came first, they were on a CD my friend's brother gave her and Dead Kennedys...I don't even remember. I remember hearing like..2 songs by them and rushing out to the music store and buying Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables(first punk album). From there I started asking around and searching for more, blah blah, here I am today.

I was smoking drugs with my punk rocker boyfriend who was good only for 2 things, and was introduced to his best friend, who had a mohawk and wore every color in the rainbow with chains, and I was so interested in him, I said, what do you like? and he said that I shoul ask what do you belive? I did...at the end of the night, he slipped the dead Kennedys and Sex Pistols into my back pocket, I gave 'em a spin, and have been hooked on both since...and my interest in the scene grew from there...lol...kinda weird, but that's how it happened..real horrorshowlike O me Brothers!

Urban Hat€monger ? 02-01-2005 11:32 AM

I found a singles case in a bus depot & after a month was told I could have it because nobody had claimed it.

It had various punk & 2 tone singles in but what impressed me most was an original copy of God Save The Queen by the Pistols

DarkPhoenix88 02-01-2005 03:10 PM

I think that Good Charlotte, and Offspring got me hooked.

Soundgardener 02-01-2005 03:59 PM

^thats pretty sad considering Good Charlotte is not punk...

jesus 02-01-2005 05:44 PM

good charlotte is not pop-punk for the last time. it's pop rock. Damn you people. Now I am going to be called genre anal again. oh well.

sleepy jack 02-01-2005 05:46 PM

You know what if anyone uses the word genre anal im gonna flame them.

jesus 02-01-2005 06:42 PM

Ooh Noo Not Flaming! Anything But Flaming!

sleepy jack 02-01-2005 06:50 PM

*pushes flame button* damnit it wont work.

Sneer 02-02-2005 09:46 AM

ok, my very interesting anecdote for you all. basically, i was about 11 and my brother being the arsehole he was locked me in a room while the damneds "damned damned damned" was playing. i think his thinking was that id hate it and be intimidated by it and at the time, quite frankly, i was. but anyway, i slowly started to get into rock and punk and i appreciated it a lot more. so there, the damneds the first punk band i heard.

i was in a cd shop with my moms long time friends husband about three years ago in ventura. he was looking at some acoustic cds and i got bored so i decided to look through the shop. i came across the offsprings smash. i aksed the guy at the counter if i could listen to it right as the guy i was with came up to buy a cd. he asked me if i wanted it and i said hell yeah. thats all i listened to for about a month until i got a new cd. before that i was more into pop punk bands like green day and unwritten law. now i listen to just about everything. except for country, rap, pop, and stuff like that.

hookers with machineguns 02-05-2005 08:56 AM

Wow, a lot of people are saying Offspring, I never thought they had anything to do with punk, but whatever! :thumb:

CrAzyBeAuTiFul 02-05-2005 09:06 AM

hookers with machineguns 02-05-2005 09:22 AM

I think it was a joke that turned into a worse joke that got interpreted as a threat. Common seriously, everybody loves stoners.
