If the term Punk did ever mean anything, the appropriation of wealthy self-pitiful children and Emo has put an end to it.

I'll check that dictionary, but in the meantime I'm impressed - as is everyone else in the world - by your eloquence, obvious accomplishments and success, and the evidence of your blazingly high intelligence.

Oi!

Early Crass and Chumbawamba were decent. I liked them a lot.
A little too political for my tastes now but...

The Exploited, Stiff Little Fingers, Sham 69, Angelic Upstarts, Etc.

The whole 'punk ethos' of doing yr own thing and esp DIY culture (in music, art, fashion, etc) is totally in line with counterculture/bohemian movements through the history of civilization. Even if they did give it a dystopian / dyspeptic spin. I love the line: 'So punk Im not even punk anymore.' Describes many old punks I know. Doing their own thing, regardless.

Of course, like all counter cultures, it got 'bought out' and marketed. Even faster than usual because it took place sorta right before the internet and the quickening of 'global' mass market culture. Oh well, there was always more to it than hair dye and piercings, some people remember that. most don't. C'est la vie. people are fckn stupid, in general. What do we expect?

I like the band called Futurist, from St. Petersburg, Russia. Ideal instrumental punk.

Default Five 80's POSTPUNK bands you NEED to know

Some postpunk bands from the 80’s provided very good music,
but it seems many peoples aren’t familiar with most.

I would quote: MAGAZINE, T.S.O.L, GANG OF FOUR, ECHO AND THE BUNNYMEN and KILLING JOKE (The most famous perhaps)
Your thoughts about these bands?

Check some songs here

TSOL spelled backwards is lost.

I'm a little surprised that you mention them with those others. They seem more within the confines of more traditional punk, in my mind.

I already saw someone make a quite similar comment,
but the album I have (Beneath the shadows) is closer to postpunk in my book.

Yeah

My opinion may be based more in who I consider their fanbase was back in the day than taking into account how they really sound. I also think of Echo as more new wave than post punk but I don't care to get bogged down in semantics
