Flipper
I tried searching and couldnt find any existing threads for this band. They are one of the more original bands to come out of the 80's hardcore scene. At a time when most punk bands were playing as fast as possible Flipper kept the same amount of aggresion with slowed down bass driven songs. Lyrics are also great.

I love that band. SEX BOMB BABY!
|
I've always meant to explore their music more but I only know bits and pieces
The video for Sacrifice is hauntingly awesome |
Flipper is great, one of the first punk bands i listened to and got into. whenever i was first getting into80s hardcore i would keep "Ha Ha Ha" on repeat for hours.
To bad their reform was a joke, not really sure what happened. |

Flipper is by far one of the greatest bands to come from the bay area.....and in so many ways completely transgressed conventional punk and hardcore.....honestly i think Flipper started noise and art rock

I love Flipper. I'll need to dig out their records, I haven't heard them in quite a while. When I first heard them I thought they'd sound like early Black Flag, oh boy was I surprised haha
you should all check out No Trend too, very similar to Flipper and absolutely excellent. |

It does sound like their music gives punk fans what they want, although "The Way of The World" made me laugh...I suppose it is all the screaming of the lyrics in that song. Here's what some people said about Flipper on Youtube: Quote:
Flipper - Get Away |
listening to flipper again for some crazy nostalgia trip. The nirvana fanboy forced me to like it if kurt did though honestly it hasn't aged as well as the melvins or wipers
How many mediocre bands is krist novaselic the bass player for nowadays anyway? |

Discovered them back in the Early 80's, thanks to a very short lived New Wave Station playing "Sex Bomb" during the evening. Generic Flipper was the album that I bought and thankfully still have after all these years.
Classic vintage footage... |
Generic is soul crushingly brilliant.

I saw Flipper play in a loft space on Boylston Street in Boston around 1981. It was the first and only rock n' roll riot I've ever been in.
Everything was fine through SS Decontrol's opening set but there was a fringe group of drunken berserkers in the mosh pit that seemed to be growing out of control during SS's set. The berserkers began throwing a hailstorm of beer bottles the minute Flipper hit the stage and dancers began slamming into any objects that were standing upright in the room, including Flipper's amplifiers and PA system. It was a fearful atmosphere and things quickly deteriorated into an outright brawl. Flipper was brave enough to keep playing even as their amplifiers were being toppled. Flipper seemed completely oblivious to mayhem all around them, including audience members who were on stage shoving band members around. I deplore gratuitous violence but I stood there gawking at this spectacle straight out of The Fight Club. I'd never seen an audience so far out of control in all my years of concert going. The riot got over with pretty quickly. Within 15 minutes of Flipper's appearance on the stage, a squad of about 20 Boston cops showed up and stopped the show. The berserkers immediately stopped fighting when the cops appeared and everybody left the show in an orderly fashion. The police were actually quite civil and polite to everyone. Most people at the show agreed that things had gotten out of hand. Fortunately nobody appeared to be hurt except for some bruisers and minor cuts. Was it just the audience at this particular show or does Flipper always elicit such a violent audience response? I really don't know the answer because it's the only Flipper concert I ever attended. |
What a great band!
Makes me want to say: "Hahahahahahaha hohohohohohoho hehehehehehehe...." and then "... i, i wanna...nevermind forget it you'll not understand anyway!":D

I've only ever listened to Generic, but I love it. Perfect music for binging on nihilism. I only just recently realized that "Sex Bomb" was sort of like their attempt at The Stooges "Fun House". Just trippy, deconstructed rock'n'roll that sounds like The Kingsmen dropped acid and forgot they were playing an actual song.

Flipper are gooooooooooooood. Saw um at Amoeba Records once, maybe twice. Good ****, I guess. I think they're better on record. Band members are kinda douchey. |
I got to see Flipper once.
I don't remember the show but it had a rad poster which was a fish cut out of cardboard with all the bands and info painted on. I bought a t-shirt too! https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.n..._5168228_n.jpg |
