Default Preference of tone.

When I think of 'Punk' I think of what 'Punk' was and the seemingly most recognized approaches thereof. I admit my knowledge of the history of the scene, and of sub-genres in general isn't as all-knowing as most fans, but I suppose it safe to say the two styles I speak of are among the most prominent; the more melodic, Ramones-esque tone of the late 70's, and the faster, heavier, 'Hardcore'/Black Flag type stuff that came 'round during the early 80's. Needless to say, both are quite traditional.

Which do you prefer, if either at all? Can you get down with both? Do you not give two ****s? Apologies if a similar thread is already up.. void this if so.

A mixture of tones, that's what makes music great.

Variety is the spice of life.

Agreed with above, both are great for different moods Mostly 70's though for me, but that's only because I'm yet to plunge into the deep end of heavier stuff.

I definately like both tones. But i enjoy the fact that there is so much variety in punk music though sometimes it can seem the opposite. But I can say I lean more toward more 80's hardcore sorts.
