New grunge bands

Everyone says "grunge is dead!" I say :soapbox: you!
What follows is a list of new grunge bands (Post-grunge? Grunge revival?), links to their YouTube accounts, Myspaces, etc... and my favorite song by them. Let me know what you think of these bands and if you know more, add 'em!

Sown - myspacedotcom/sownband - "Nurse's Office"
Splinter Head - youtubedotcom/punkassnoodles - "Fix My Head"
Ill Fate - youtubedotcom/ILLFate187 - "Lost My Mind"
Senium - myspacedotcom/senium1 - "Anything You Say"
Pet Salad - myspacedotcom/petsalad - "Hollywoodland"

Big fan of Violent Soho, grunge revival

rockt 01-26-2011 12:09 PM

I was into metal the first time flannel rocked the scenes; but I liked it a couple years ago.

I listened to all the songs.

Sown >> Rawk'nRoll the dead. +2
Splinter Head :: If New Metal met Layne Staley & held hands
Ill Fate :: Would Sound Better with More reverb
Senium >::Groovy Fuzz on Toast
Pet Salad :: Nirvana worship mixed with shardtpop

Maybe I have bad A.D.D.;; but I always find the songs too long.

I love em thanks for the share!

i find it hilarious that there's now a revival for a style that the vast majority of the bands associated to it never used.

did Nirvana / Mudhoney / Tad / Screaming Trees / Alice in Chains / Soundgarden / Pearl Jam or any of those others call themselves 'grunge' before the press decided they needed a new marketing term to describe them? ....

Mark Arm apparently coined the term 'grunge', but mainly it was the media that labelled all these bands. It is a really loose term as the more hard-rock influenced bands like Pearl Jam and Screaming Trees sound nowhere near the more punk-influenced bands like Nirvana and Mudhoney.

As for a grunge revival? Just because it's 20 years after 1991 it doesn't mean that this has to happen. So far the only 'grunge revival' band i've come across is Violent Soho and they're nothing special. It's just media speculation.

that's exactly it though i obviously wasn't aware of Arm's coining of the term. it just got ridiculous for a bit around 92-93. $300 designer flannel shirts. really?

on one hand i totally agree that just because it's 20 years later doesn't mean that a revival has to happen. but at the same time pop music has proven stagnant and cyclical for a few decades now. the labels are running scared and haven't dared take a legitimate risk in the mainstream in pretty much ever, which has in turn lead to generations of young musicians who approach the medium for celebrated attention rather than artistic expression (the whole attitude that the audience is 'supposed' to be paying attention to the artist rather than the artist being there to entertain the crowd).

i really think the next decade will be interesting as more and more people come into themselves without really having to deal with mainstream mass media as their primary source for cultural identity and expression as they develop and mature into adulthood.

Anyone heard of them?

So one of my favorite bands on the face of the planet is Saliva. It shocks me that this type of music is still so unheard…and that it came from Tennessee. Their shows are…so freaking amazing and I wish that real life allowed me to just follow the tours around to be a part of every live experience. Their music really…it just speaks to me. I think everyone has a band like that. They just put out this new single, and it’s my determined goal right now to make sure that as many people who love music as much as I do get to hear it and gain them some support. They’ve been at this for more than ten years, and I want to see it all explode for them. A lot of people probably know their son, “Ladies and Gentlemen” from a few years back when it was used for television ads. Oh, their epicness really transcends that song.

If you haven’t heard of them before, check that out. Nothing illegal, just a way to get in touch!

Unheard? Those guys have a bunch of songs that charted, I say they're relatively well known.

Zer0 02-06-2011 09:26 AM

Even i've heard of Saliva, i can remember them being fairly popular in the early 00's during the nu-metal peak. I don't see what they have to do with this topic.

Necromancer 02-06-2011 02:55 PM

The actual title, New Grunge Bands? is all new news to me . I know that Grunge has made somewhat of a comeback recently, after being dormant for a number of years. I never really accepted, or held much value for the label/term Post Grunge (personally).

James 02-10-2011 09:57 AM

Dinosaur Pile-Up are a solid band.

j watson 05-26-2011 01:31 PM

BTown 05-26-2011 10:03 PM

It seems dead from a commercial standpoint, but there is still an audience for it.

Mugin2 09-03-2011 09:13 AM

I guess that's one way to look at it, and I choose to agree with you.

Isbjørn 11-30-2012 02:06 AM

I voted for Pearl Jam.

This is a great new grunge band called Noiseheads:

youtube.com/watch?v=rrzqLTZTzJM

That song is called Expectations. I've heard a few more off their debut record (called 1994, haha), and a lot of them are solid.

Necromancer 04-04-2013 07:17 PM

Seether has been my favorite post grunge band since the 90s grunge era. Sorry .. :finger:

We are no longer friends.

james6 04-15-2013 02:18 AM

Not sure if you ever heard about Ashtray, but it is a great up-and-coming band. Maybe more hard-rock than grunge, but the lead singer has this Staley-like edge.
You can find them on youtube. Type 'ashtray turn off full ep' in the search bar.

Thinkofthechildren 04-16-2013 03:59 PM

Post-grunge is the worst genre ever. I hope it dies, and also people need to realise Foo Fighters are Sh*te.

Zer0 04-16-2013 04:58 PM

Seeing as this thread is over two years old, where was that supposed grunge revival then? :)

I didn't realise post-grunge was still alive, it hasn't been a problem here in well over a decade. Thank fuck for not living in America.

Lastone 05-13-2013 10:43 PM

i love grunge music thanks for sharing

Wow, just when you thought everybody loved Collective Soul...

FrigginParadox 05-15-2013 12:40 AM

dope body is cool

Far From California 06-04-2013 06:00 PM

My band Far From California is what I called "Nu Grunge" as there is "Nu Metal" where we have elements of grunge mixed with elements of other music. It's a combination of everybody but me in the band being influenced by bands such as Deftones, Tool, and The Cure while my influences include Local H, NIRVANA, Elliott Smith, Sonic Youth, and The Pixies.

Other than that I really did Violent Soho :D

Draupnir 06-22-2013 05:20 AM

Disweather is a post-punk/grunge band.

muffin 04-24-2016 04:27 AM

Diamond Jones Duo

muffin 04-24-2016 04:31 AM

Can you just post some YTs for those of us having a lazy day?

Aux-In 04-24-2016 03:44 PM

Some lazy new wave grunge.

Superheaven - "I've Been Bored"

ChelseaDagger 04-24-2016 05:02 PM

They're all on Bandcamo. They probably don't have YT vids.

ChelseaDagger 04-27-2016 04:13 PM

This album isn't exactly "new" since it was released in 2012; however, it's some of the best new wave grunge I've heard. The whole album is a damn good listen, from start to finish... Damn good.

Basement- colourmeinkindness

Edit: Same vein as Superheaven, I like Basement more though.

Grunge is certainly alive and well, but more and more it's crossing over with other genres.

Nothing could be considered grunge, but they're also arguably shoegaze.

Diarrhea Planet (arguably a pop-punk band)

Donovan Wolfington (also more on the pop-punk side)

It's actually a pretty cool time for punk/grunge right now.
