Captain Ron 06-24-2011 07:52 PM

the queen haters beats all those pretenders. just check out their drummer. he looks just like john candy

BastardofYoung 06-24-2011 08:09 PM

naw. Misfits were not pretenders. Misfits were the real deal, if you said otherwise they would kick the sh*t out of ya on the spot.

Danzig era Misfits are essential punk rock, Graves era is meh.

I wouldn't consider it punk... or particularly badass. Although I've heard a lot of different definitions for their music, actually.

best punk song with horns

METALLICA_RULES 07-06-2011 08:00 PM

The most badass punk song is definetly Pretty Fly by The Offspring.

BastardofYoung 07-06-2011 09:39 PM

^no.

James 07-08-2011 04:27 PM

Lexicon Devil and that just can't be debated.

BastardofYoung 07-08-2011 04:30 PM

^ no. They aren't that good. Unless bad ass means junked out here, than maybe.

Sorry but I hate you.

BastardofYoung 07-08-2011 04:33 PM

yeah yeah. Darby is on the same level as GG Allin. Only nobody wants to admit it, cause "What We Do is Secret" made hipsters think they are underground and well versed in punk rock.

Get out, just get out now. Nobody mocks Darby and that song is awesome!

BastardofYoung 07-08-2011 04:40 PM

yeah, who dares discuss the punk merits of a guy with no talent who killed himself.. and hey do not get me wrong, i like the germs... but they aren't that great.

Stiv Bators was better than Darby Crash. I would go with "Sonic Reducer" or "Ain't Nothing to Do" over anything the Germs did.

As I said though, it is just hip to like The Germs because of that movie I mentioned, just the same as they are now jumping ship on Anvil cause of the movie on them.

I'm no hipster man, I just love the band. I like The Dead Boys but The Germs are just unbeatable for me when it comes to Hardcore Punk.

BastardofYoung 07-08-2011 04:50 PM

really though, this is pretty awful

But what it lacks in talent, it makes up in energy. I do not dislike The Germs as I say, I even like Darby... even though it was no secret he was known to be a real racist prick.

But really... look at that video, and tell me one thing that is truly great when looked past the self destruction..

than watch this:

Stiv 1, Darby 0.

I can prove you wrong with 2 simple words: F*cked Up.

Will even add one more word: OFF!

bob. 07-09-2011 01:12 PM

that OFF! album definatly got my vote for one the best albums last year

BastardofYoung 07-09-2011 01:32 PM

Tis a great album. A bit of a throw back sound, it is the type of album that could of been released in 1980-1984 and it would fit right in. Keith Morris is great.

One of my favorites of the last few years as well.

bob. 07-09-2011 02:30 PM

yeah it basically sounbds like the early black flag when he was still the front man....which is beyond "wonderful"

i'm really enjoying this band from Sweden called "Misantropic"....amazing female fronted d-beat

i picked up their debut album....and the only thing i hate about it is the fact that its only 17 minutes long....this reminds me of why i got into this shit in the first place....i need to see these kids live

So much this. F*cked Up are, in my opinion, the all-around best modern punk band. OFF! are a really fun band too.

bob. 07-09-2011 04:58 PM

i think i'm gonna have to give F*cked Up another chance.....i looked into them a couple years ago but was just not into it at the time

BastardofYoung 07-09-2011 05:38 PM

yeah, earlier stuff was more punk, their last few albums have show them to be a band always trying to evolve and try new things. Deranged Records has some great bands that show that punk is still good... F*cked Up, Brutal Knights, Career Suicide.. just a few great punk bands on their roster.

To say that The Offspring is better than any of them is just laughable. Still great punk rock out there, just have to dig deep to find it, won't find it if you are looking at at what is popular in the mainstream.

Even in the 90's, The Offspring were nothing all that special, better bands out there at the time.

Yeah, I loved Keith Morris in Black Flag, as I have said, Rollins is my favorite as a front man, but my least favorite as a vocalist. Morris and Reyes were both better vocalists, but not as intense of a front man as Rollins.

OFF! also has members from Rockets From the Crypt and Red Kross.

I will check out the band you posted here in a bit. I am not to familiar with most d-beat.

bob. 07-09-2011 05:48 PM

yeah the drummer for OFF! seems to have been in basically every good band to have ever come out of San Diego....including RFTC, Hot Snakes, and even Black Heart Procession for a little bit....their (OFF!) new seven inch released on Southern Lord is excellent

i'll look into their(F*cked Up) earlier stuff....the album i picked is their first release on Jade Tree

BastardofYoung 07-09-2011 06:05 PM

for a good intro to those days of F*cked Up. Just get this comp.

they have so many 7"s it is insane. This is a good overview of some of them though.

Why does this argument crop up all the time when it was already decided years ago?

This is rather spendlid too:

BastardofYoung 07-09-2011 07:11 PM

because that is the name of the game.

and Poison Idea are great, "Pick Your King" is one of my favrorite releases from the glory years of hardcore.
