i want to record (bass, cd, bling, vocalist, microphone)

ok i have a question i want to record my bands music. but i have no earthly idea how. i want to do this so if any one knows a cheap way of doing this. (info 2 guitars, bass player, 2 vocalists, drummer)

What sort of equipmet do you own/have access to? laptop computer, Microphones, audio recording software, four track, anything?

press record
play instruments
press stop
sell it off as ultra low fi

there are recording studios around everywhere that charge hourly for use. also as someone said check out ebay and musiciansfriend.com they should have some good deals

If you are into DIY, there are a bunch of sites online that will help you get started. If you have a computer with a soundcard and a microphone, you are well on your way. Its not gonna sound pro, but its a good way to get your music out there. Read as much as you can. There are a 1000 little things that can help you get a better sound. We DIY'd our own EP (computer, Cakewalk Pro Audio, several mics, and a mixer) and it turned out pretty good. As I said, not pro quality, but at least its tolarable and gets your music out there.
If I were you, I would read as much as possible, then decide if you would rather DIY (free if you have equipment, costly if you dont) or if you would rather go to a studio (lowest cost $20/hr). If you have alot of money at your disposal, I would recommend a studio. Its much less work, and you will probably be more happy with the results.

A local band here went to a studio, not sure how much it cost them though. Must not have been to much seeing how they sell their cd's for 5 dollars each. Then a good friend of mines band recorded on a broken 8-track recorder and edited on their computer. Obviously the studio cd sounded better, but I guarentee my friends band didnt pay half as much to make their cd as the other band did, and they put a lot more effort into it. So either way seems okay to me.

Oh yea, this OTHER local band used one microphone and windows sound recorder. That's what I heard anyway. I have their cd and it sounds half decent.. Their are plenty of options I think...

Here's a thought; let's stop labeling music and fighting over what genre a certain band is, and start listening to whatever pleases our ears no matter what anyone thinks of it! ;)
