You mean like the Tony Hawk Pro Skater franchise? That's a wide array of music, but the majority of it I would file under pop punk.

Crossover thrash or hardcore is what I'd consider "skate punk". Suicidal Tendencies and DRI are the best examples of this. A lot of real skaters think that pop punk skate **** is lame as ****.

I think the skateboarders who like Green Day and Sum 41 usually got into it in like high school to try and have some hobby that sounds cool. I'm actually not a skater but a lot of my friends are, and it's a very elitist thing. If you just like to skate at parks and do tricks every so often, you're a poser who probably listens to Blink 182. If you skate as a sport, and skate in people's pools and on the streets and stuff, you're legit and you wouldn't be caught dead listening to that crap.

Again, this isn't really anything I can substantiate, but I think skate punk certainly is not the pop punk, even if the subject is about skateboarding.
