It found a firm place in the 1980s independent scene, and led to the development of genres such as gothic rock, industrial music and alternative rock.

Also, musicians tend to be much more experimental, often incorporating influences from Dub, Electronic, Funk, Krautrock, Art Rock, and Experimental music. Classic examples include Joy Division, Talking Heads, Public Image Ltd., Gang of Four, Television, Wire, The Chameleons, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Magazine, The Birthday Party, and The Fall. Unlike its more pop-based counterpart New Wave, Post-Punk often deals with darker subject matter. Post-Punk is also often considered one of the primary predecessors of Alternative Rock.

After somewhat fading from popularity during the 1990s, Post-Punk saw a revival in the early-to-mid 2000s, with bands such as Interpol, Franz Ferdinand, and Bloc Party bringing it back into the spotlight. Although this revival has clear roots in the gloomy, beat-driven sound of early Post-Punk, it also takes some influence from Indie Rock, has generally incorporated fewer influences from other genres, and has been more commercially successful than the original Post-Punk movement (particularly in the United Kingdom).

Beginner's Guide to Post-Punk | loathsomepete | 49 listens

I made this mix a few weeks ago and have been enjoying it quite a bit ever since. It's mostly the top tier stuff, but I have been working on a follow up with some deeper cuts.

I made an account on 8track but how do you put songs on your playlists?

Create a playlist and click where it says "Upload Songs".

I go in and out of post punk phases, but This Heat has always been one of my favourites that I can listen to even when I'm not in a post punk funk.

And The Pop Group is pretty fantastic as well, their singer is one of my favourites.

The Birthday Party's probably my favourite out of those listed in the OP.

A personal favorite band that for whatever weird reason is often overlooked when the subject of post punk comes up, Wall of Voodoo:
