The great hardcore/punk countdown

Love love love Propagandhi. I know it's not really what you were trying to do, but it's kind of unfair to compare them to Pennywise and The Offspring. Propagandhi are a lot more complex, don't try to write contrived anthems, and have actually shown progression since their debut, becoming more influenced by progressive rock and metal as time has passed. Every era of their work has some fantastic songs. These are my personal favourites:

I would argue though, that despite their complexity, Propagandi are still in the same vein as Pennywise & the Offspring, in that they play melodic hardcore, and although everyone has probably picked up by now it's not my favourite genre, all the big melodic hardcore acts are listed, speaking of which...

71. Rise Against Genre (Melodic Hardcore) Illinois USA, era Modern &

Night Fever Genre (Hardcore/retro hardcore) Denmark, er modern

One of the more commercially popular punk bands at the moment. Tim Mcllrath is a great vocalist, and they write some pretty catchy tunes, but I'm at the point where every band on the list from here on out is pretty good, and Rise Against cuts a little too close to Bad Religion part 2 for me, great band otherwise.

70 .Bleeding Through Genre (Metalcore) , California USA era Modern

First Blood Genre (Metallic Hardcore/Hardcore) California, era, modern

Unlike most metalcore bands signed to the majors, Bleeding through
hasn't sold out by incorporating emo filled soft rock ballads in their songs, instead we just get a hard hitting blend of metal & hardcore. The Declaration album is pretty good.

Anyways for this set, some classic Canadian hardcore, beat down hardcore kings, a legendary american hardcore band, crust punk kings, some modern oi! & finally my little modern crossover thrash duo.

To be honest, I haven't heard anything outstanding from First Blood, they just sound like another run of the mill chest beating Hatebreed knock off, so here's hoping they improve. I've also put down Subzero as I originally had the two paired up in the oriiginal interlude.

Husker Du Genre (Post Hardcore) Minneapolis, USA, era, 80's.

DS:

One of my favourite Canadian hardcore bands of all time. Popular throughout Canada and parts of the States, the band folded in the early 90's and tumbled into obscurity as a result not being able to get a hold of their recording rights. They finally got their two releases out on CD not too long ago, and are enjoying a resurgence in popularity as a result. If your a fan of 80's hardcore, I highly recommend them. RIP Pete Cleaver.

The Real Mckenzies Genre (Celtic Punk/Punk rock) British Columbia, Canada, era, 90's/Present

Yet another one of my favourite Canadian punk bands.This one is from the 90's, I'll have one of my favourite modern bands in the next set.

On a sidenote, some of the bands stuff has been getting pulled or blocked on you tube by EMI. Nowhere does my Furnaceface stuff have the EMI logo stamped on it??? I have however noticed a disturbing trend by the majors to buy up the distribution rights to a lot of old hardcore stuff that they now feel they get make a profit out of, I'll expand on that a bit later.

Good call on Death Sentence. I saw their brief tour they did last year here in my hometown. Got a free copy of the CD from Doug Donut himself. Interesting guy he is.

But their EP "Not A Pretty Sight" is amazing.

Born from Pain Genre (Metallic Hardcore/Hardcore) Denmark, era Modern.

I never thought I would see the day when California hardcore started to sound like NYHC, but for better or worst it's been imported around the world under the banner of Beatdown hardcore, with Terror leading the pact, but for me, Terror are simply just one of the best American hardcore acts out there, period.

Ha. Well, being in Canada... I have done some studying on the Canadian Punk and Hardcore scene. There were some interesting bands for sure. Death Sentence is probably among the most under appreciated.

Only band I would say is more underrated:

I made a thread on them, got a few new listeners. But this EP ("Against the Glass) is amazing. Highly recommended if you can find a copy of it. I got on off EBAY for $40 (it is a bit of a rarity now - I have seen copies pop up on there and go for double that)
