As far as trying too hard goes, I'll say this: I've seen both bands in concert and SoM was the only one with costume changes and smoke machines.

Killing Joke was pretty damn good live....Sisters of Mercy was like seeing an arena band in a smoke filled club....but still pretty amazing

I don't know exactly what I meant by 'trying too hard' - I guess just all the lineup changes, staying relevant, updating their sound, Dave Grohl, etc.

There's not really anything I actually dislike about the band though.

Killing Joke by far for me. I love SoM but for a band that has only released 3 albums (with a drum machine I may add) and the last being a Jim Steinman co produced effort, there is no contest for me. A band that has released Absolute Dissent and MMXII within the space of 2 years and have them sounding both completely different; yet still easily recognisable as Killing Joke is no mean feat and SoM have had as many line up changes as Killing joke yet the core of Killing Joke remains the same and the original line up confirms that.

SoM have made far catchier songs but not many bands sound like Killing Joke to this day and that is not bad going for over 30 years.

All good points.

I almost went with Sisters of Mercy as well. That was a tough one.

I am going to stretch the definition of punk here, industrial goth music has always been related to the punk/alternative scene so...

Skinny Puppy Versus Ministry

Vote for your favourite band. Polls close Friday night Pacific time, provided there is 5 plus votes.

Have to go with my home town heroes on this one.

Skinny Puppy 1
Ministry 0

Oh my god man, you're killing me. These are two of my absolute favorite bands, both with roots back to my youth, both with a huge influence on my taste to this very day. This is like fucking Sophie's Choice here. I'm going to need some time to think about this.

Well if it makes things easier I could change it to Ministry vs My Chemical Romance, jk. Take all the time you need, cheers.
