Punks who hate hippies are ignorant, and stupid.
Music is music.
Besides if Hippies never existed there would be no punk, because the Hippie scene died out, and the young hippies got bored and started punk.

i don't think punks are particularly violent, only in the form of self-mutilation

it's just that you get effin' idiots like Sid Vicious who bashed people's heads with bass guitars

i don't think punks are any more violent than any other subculture in music
