I'm pretty big on the Pistols but i'd definitely say New Rose beats Anarchy in the UK.

^ Punk factoid: One of your idols played in a 70's punk band with one of my friends. Can you guess who it was?

Someone wrote a great article in the liner notes of a Nirvana boxset that the first wave of punk was the origin of Rock N' Roll, the second wave British Invasion, the third Psychedelic Rock, the Fourth, the MC5, Stooges, etc., and the fifth, what we consider the original "punk" movement (it goes on to label subsequent movements as other 'waves' of punk).

And so one (including myself) could make the argument that the orgin of rock n' roll itself fits very nicely with the punk aesthetic, as does almost every rock music movement afterwards (ones that aren't as mainstream for the most part).

That assumes that anyone still does now.

Aside from critics and their would-be heirs, no one listens to this on a regluar basis unless you wear it on your sleeve. Its just hipster **** that should have died in the 70's....so thanks Brit Punks. And you can keep the ****ing smiths too.

"this" as in the ramones...a band that hundreds of people I know love and admire..and those hundred or so other people I know that go to see the tribute band on new years eve knowing every single lyric of every song.....I guess it is just hipster bull**** that no one listens to anymore.

...the only reason somewhat might not talk about it is because it's become a musical staple just like zeppelin or the beatles.
