Blink 182 vs To Greenday

BLINK 182 is better.

The Sane Psycho 06-24-2014 12:54 PM

I love Blink-182 and recognize their importance in Pop-Punk, but I prefer Green Day by far.

Them's fightin words, son.

The Sane Psycho 06-24-2014 07:23 PM

The reason I say that they're important is that they influenced a ton of Pop Punk bands. How many albums and bands from the new millennium have been a straight up rip off of Blink-182? Very many. Whether you like Blink-182 or their many copycat bands or not, you can't deny that they were massively influential.

GuD 06-24-2014 07:33 PM

...

Yeah,

but they basically just copied the Descendents. And most of the pop punk bands they influenced are the terrible kinds that give the genre a bad rep.

SamHagensick 06-28-2014 01:28 PM

Blink 182 is the best

James 06-28-2014 02:32 PM

In this thread - 'What's better, Cancer or AIDS?'

Wpnfire 06-28-2014 09:55 PM

Blink has way better riffs.

Janszoon 06-28-2014 11:03 PM

I don't really like Green Day but they have a couple ok songs. Blink 182 are just terrible.

Aichuk 06-29-2014 01:30 AM

Blink-182 is sometimes fun to listen to, but they're mostly ****e. Dookie-era Greenday is great and I even enjoy some of their recent songs.

Greenday for me.

The Sane Psycho 06-30-2014 03:24 PM

Don't get me wrong, I do love Blink-182, but Green Day is one of my favorite Punk bands of all time.

skeetz 06-30-2014 10:59 PM

Blink 182 rules greenday DROOLS.

Kid Flip 06-30-2014 11:13 PM

I think Green Day

skeetz 06-30-2014 11:21 PM

I'm pretty sure greenday are made up of very talented individuals but what can I say enema of the state did it for me and as far as I'm concerned better than anything greenday ever put out and I'm pretty sure they put out some neat music.

BastardofYoung 07-01-2014 11:55 PM

I think Dookie alone is better than anything Blink 182 has done.

Bahahaha Green Day is not punk. It's pop.

I choose Blink 182 because they were my favourite band when I was 13 and i had a big crush on Mark Hoppus.

Wpnfire 07-02-2014 12:24 AM

All the small things is pretty much the voice of angsty 13 year olds everywhere who think they're being rebellious to listen to a song that contains the word suck. Also, people my age who I have nothing in common with music wise still enjoy it when I blast the song at max volume. Of course those same people may listen to Bieber et al so it's a double-edged sword.

All that being said, I'm pretty much exclusively a fan of the guitar riff in blinks songs and between all the small things, and I miss you, they are pretty well set in that department to be better than GreenDay. Both bands have released some questionable records and IMO, Sum 41 wipes the floor with them both.
Yes I'm well aware that to most members here I'm comparing two ****ty pop punk bands to another ****ty pop punk band but I really think Sum is better than them both.

Frownland 07-02-2014 12:28 AM

Angsty and whiny **** versus whiny and angsty ****?

After much deliberation I think I'll choose to grow up and dislike both.

They had punk roots though. Lookout! was a pretty big deal as far as record labels go. You share a label with acts like Screeching Weasel, The Queers and Operation Ivy (hell, lets even throw in Pansy Division).. they had a following. Those fans got divided once Dookie was released. They had a following to at 924 Gilman Street until 1994.

Can't deny that there is still a punk aesthetic with them. Can't rule Green Day out as a pop band anymore than Blink-182.

Sum 41?

Ninetales 07-02-2014 08:08 AM

back when i was in grade 6 we had a battle of the bands competition (although it was just lip synching and fake instruments). my "band" did I Miss You so Blink 182 is ingrained in my brain and ill always love them. I actually ended up not even being able to go, despite the fact that i had been practicing the whole time. they didnt win and i like to think it was because i wasnt there rockin out the second verse.

+1

Yeah, Sum 41 had a couple moments that were fun. But on the whole, they are one of the worst pop-punk bands ever.

Goofle 07-02-2014 12:37 PM

Sum 41 have a few songs that are completely acceptable on "Metal floors", and "Metal floors" only.

skeetz 07-02-2014 03:08 PM

Yup blink 182 is better.

GuD 07-02-2014 05:28 PM

Ugh.

This reminds me of that NN2S strip where Blake talks about how people get into punk through bastardized pop punk bands like the ones being mentioned and how that very real process taints decent pop punk.

Seriously, Blink 182 is just Descendents without Milo's iconic glasses. I mean, lets just give them and Green Day all the credit for "inventing" pop punk and ignore, oh... let's see:

The Undertones
Ramones
Buzzcocks
Gorilla Biscuits
Descendents
Husker Du
Naked Raygun
Dead Milkmen
Screeching Weasel
Lifetime
Samiam
Jawbreaker
The Queers
Dillinger Four

and countless other bands who did it for the love of punks who didn't take themselves too seriously. Also, **** the Warped Tour crowd. Seriously that **** is ****ed up and at this point is basically just a way for 20 to 30 something creeper ass dudes to impress teenaged girls and get in their pants. I mean how many people in bands from those circles have been picked up on statutory rape cases now? Too ****ing many. And Fat Mike is a lazy, disingenuous, greedy fraud.

GuD 07-02-2014 05:31 PM

All that said I actually do like Green Day sometimes but everything after Insomniac has been mediocre or terrible imo. And, they stole the riff to American Idiot from Dillinger Four.

Mondo Bungle 07-02-2014 06:05 PM

D4 is cool and all, but why on Earth would they get lumped together with all those other bands? They formed in 1994. Green Day released three full length albums by that time, one of which was their most popular.

That was just a general statement though, I don't know the D4 song you're referring to (at least not off hand) that American Idiot rips off.

GuD 07-02-2014 06:13 PM

This off of Midwestern Songs of the Americas, 1998. Pinhead Gunpowder, one of Billie's side projects, actually did a split with D4 too.

GuD 07-02-2014 09:00 PM

And I brought up D4 because they're still pretty influential on today's pop punk bands too. You make a good point though.

I liked it more when people accused them of ripping off that Korean song:

GuD 07-03-2014 01:31 AM

Wow... that's practically note for note with the melody.

Mormo Zine 07-17-2014 01:10 PM

I'd have to go with Green Day on this one.

I worked with a dude who had a huge resentment against Blink182 and that has kind of stuck with me.

johnieAnto 07-19-2014 12:04 PM

hello everybody Im from Greece and here Green Day is a very famous band Blink 182 is not that famous but i like them most !

Dylstew 07-21-2014 02:04 AM

The Descendents. Because Milo Goes To College.

Tr! 07-31-2014 09:13 PM

Probably Green Day, since I kind of grew up with them because of my brother. It is close though, especially since my mom is a Blink 182 fan haha.

St.Roostifer 07-31-2014 09:27 PM

I mean no offense to anyone but neither band represents the true punk mentality or music for that matter. Both bands make some cool tunes but are products of the mainstream music industry which is definitely not punk. Again, I don't mean to offend.

Bishie 08-05-2014 05:47 AM

Out of both I can tolerate Green Day more.

FRED HALE SR. 08-05-2014 04:30 PM

Blink 182 by a thousand miles, they know how to have fun. Green Day I find repulsive.
