You'll find Marquee Moon on the top of quite a few "best of" post punk lists

Is it post punk I don't even know man but I get why it's listed that way, to me they're just Punk Rock they played alongside the Ramones

Considering they kind of came along about ten seconds before punk you could also call them proto-punk. #****itall

Television played at CBGBs around the same time as Ramones and co if I'm not mistaken. So... Not really post punknif u wanna be pedantic. Not really punk either. I qasnt there but if i had to guess they mightve been thought of as a jam band in an unfitting crowd.

Nah. Television were the first CBGB's band. The Ramones, Blondie, Talking Heads, etc followed soon after, but Television predated punk by a very short period, and the punk explosion by a while longer. They also didn't really sound like they did on Marquee Moon at first. Before they were more of a Stooges-style garage rock band until Tom Verlaine took control of the band (think "Friction"). If anything the Ramones were probably the ugly kids on the block compared to the early CBGB's bands, who were more art rock than what anyone would call punk nowadays.

CBGB's was a Country, Blue Grass, and Blues bar. Television was the first band to convince the owner to go in a different direction, the "omfug" part.

That's a cool video!

Not reading the entire thread but the real answer to OP is "kind of." Pretty punk at the start and watered themselves down as they went along. This kind of genre definition is not black and white at all.

They played punk music for a while. Take it as you will.
