First Gig

Who did you see as your first gig?

Hopefully we can get some embarrassing ones on here.

Mines was, Ian Dury & the Blockheads in London (Feb 6, 2000) when I was 9.

Peace,
Joe

Well, my first concert (Not too long ago) was me filling in for my sister at the North Sea Jazz festival. She was supposes to go with my dad, but as she coulrn't I ended up goin instead. Was fun, despite not being my kinda music. Saw 3 artists, was disapppinted the reggae one wasn't as awesome on record as live :'(.

Second one was a friend who knew the people who hosted a place, so we went to see some obscure Dutch Indie rock bands for free in some small place. Two were pretty fun, one was boring, but it was all so loud my ears felt like **** after and I probably got permanent hearing damage. So next time I took earplugs.

But what I consider my first real concert (As it's actually something I chose to want to go to myself for the band and not just happened to tag along) was pretty recent, a few months ago I guess? A friend asked me to go to Bad Religion with him in The Melkweg in Amsterdam. It was ****in' awesome, even if I'm not as huge into Bad Religion as that friend. I'm way more into Punk than him though, so a good punk band is awesome either way. Everyone (including me) went bat**** insane when they said they were about to play Generator, I guess it's not just my favourite, haha.

The embarrassing thing for me is that it took 19 years for me to go to a punk concert, and 18 to any other.

Muse. I ain't ashamed though, it was a great ****ing night.

Aloysius 09-16-2016 04:51 PM

Midnight Oil in '86 (when I was 16). It was great. Then INXS the same year.

Boss had an extra ticket to Motley Crue and Aerosmith years ago. Motley Crue were awesome, Aerosmith seemed to think we were there to see them jam. First show I ever went out of my way to see though was Children of Bodom, supported by Between the Buried and Me and Black Dahlia Murder. Was a pretty epic show.

Not sure. It was pretty dark in their dressing room.

This answer applies to both posts.

UnderOATH opened up for Coheed and Cambria. I was 15. I grabbed so much skater chick ass that night.

Early Underoath is rad, yo. I'm guessing this wasn't early Underoath though.

Well I'm sure they appreciated it. Nobody wants to forget their ass when they leave.

My dad took me to see Judas Priest when I was 13 or 14. It was pretty cool.

Yes you did. You edited it so it was a still image.

grindy 09-17-2016 11:13 AM

It was moving and flickering. Then, months ago, I removed the flickering and it was just moving from side to side. That's it.

First punk gig was a triple bill with Gang Green, Negative FX, and Bad Brains (1982, I think) at a now defunct venue in Boston, MA called Mr. Mcnasty's Pub. A third of the crowd was slam-dancing up front in the mosh pit while the other two thirds of the crowd stood back around the bar area and watched the show from a safe distance. There was an empty area between the slam dancers and the onlookers, sort of like a no man's land where no one ventured into. Lots of bruises, fat lips & bloody noses coming out of the mosh pit that day.

Though I'd avoid the **** out of that mosh pit, I'm quite jealous, that's a great lineup.

I saw Sabbath, Godsmack and some others I don't remember. I was five and it was so ****ing hot.

The Batlord 09-19-2016 05:51 PM

Just one more left to toss overboard.

Blank. 09-19-2016 07:27 PM

My first gig?

It was Hollywood undead (I didn't go for them), 10 Years, Sick Puppies (I went for them), and Blue October was the headliner. I took off before October took the stage.

Janszoon 09-19-2016 10:44 PM

My dad took me to see Roy Orbison in the mid 80s, when I was 8 or 9. The Crickets opened (as in Buddy Holly's backing band). At the time I just thought it was cool to go to a concert, but now I think it's pretty neat that I got to see one of those original rock 'n rollers before he died.

It was quite a memorable introduction to punk shows! I stayed out of the pit and hung back at the bar with a friend, drinking beer and avoiding the carnage. The three other people I went with all jumped right into the pit for most of the show. They all came out battered and bruised... one came out with a bloody nose, and one came out with blood smeared on his shirt (someone else's)

I managed to find a flyer from the show...

*flashback*

11 or 12 years old at a local amusement park and saw this killer rock band play in front of maybe 75-100 people. About a year later I started hearing one of the songs they played that day on the radio, and the rest is rock and roll history.

Whenever I see a pic of Aerosmith they always have some weird-looking expressions that seem to be directed towards how much Steven Tyler looks like a transvestite. In this one they seem to be embarrassed.

Chula Vista 09-20-2016 01:01 PM

Transvestites rock.

The Batlord 09-20-2016 01:18 PM

I love old Aerosmith, but there does seem to be a trope about their band pics and the members having weird expressions directed toward Tyler.

First concert I attended was Rush 2112 tour in Kansas City, May of 1976. I was 5 yrs. old. I went with my older brother and his girlfriend. They were 18 yrs. old.

Two months later my second concert was Kiss in Kansas City for their Destroyer tour with the same brother and two of his best friends.
